how much does a Sledgehammer cost?
and where is the best place to get one?

I can get ya one for $300 + shipping. They sell for $350 + shipping. I have seen them on Ebay from time to time.
Don

Don definately sells them cheap but I wont count out ebay. I got my sledgehammer super cheap on ebay.

OK...read this post yesterday, got convinced, and snagged a Sledgehammer on ebay for $255 + $10 s/h. Hope it's not a scam.

I ordered a Sledgehammer and it was delivered today. I can hardly wait to get home and take a look at it.

I break with my playing cue. It's a Predator (3K-4), with a Moori (hard) tip, 18 oz. It breaks great for me. Allot of people say it's the cue that break, but I think most of it is what's behind the cue. If you don't hit it right, with a good force, then it won't break good, no matter which cue you use...but that's just my $0.02

Add $298.98 to your $0.02 and get a sledgehammer. If you don't find a difference (which you will), you'll have no problem selling it and going about your merry way. There really is a difference.

Can someone enlighten me on the Sledgehammer tip? What is it made of? Why does it never need replaced? Does it need shaped/scuffed? If so, wouldn't that eventually wear it down, necessitating replacement? Thanks...

I haven't seen one yet, but from what I have read, it has a phenolic ferrule. It has no tip. The ferrule has a slight radius, which acts like a tip.

phenolic being a fiberous plastic.

I've heard of phenolic tips, never seen one. So, it doesn't need shaped or ever wear down? Cool.

I think I read on this thread that someone 'scuffed' theirs to make it hold chalk. However, I don't even know if chalk is neccessary. I guess I will find out tonight.

If you do a search on Ebay, there are plenty of people selling phenolic ferrules.

Phenolic tips dont wear or have to be shaped.I did scuff my Sledgehammer and it appears to have help but i only did it last night so the jury is still out.

my break cue

a friend of mine has a custom made cue that i will put up against a sledge hammer any day of the week. they break good.. especially the new ones.. but they are by far not the best cue in my oppinion. but oppinions are like teeth... just about everyone has one or more... but when im not using his break cue i use my schon... it breaks um up pretty good as well.

I scuff my sledge just a teeeeeeny bit. I can break ok with the Sledge or with my Scruggs. With the TS, I can control the cue ball a little better than with the Sledge. I think it's because the leather tip grabs the cue ball more. With the Sledge, I can move a rack around MUCH better, though. I use the Sledge mostly when breaking for one pocket. First pocket a ball goes in is mine, right?

:D

Sledgehammer's price

I paid $300 for my sledgehammer and it is very nice. Two weeks ago at Mr. Cue's II, I saw one there for about $270.

Thanks...does anyone else scuff or chalk their Sledgehammers?

You have to definately chalk the sledgehammer. Phrenolic tips are notorious for miscuing if you dont adequately chalk them. I scuff mine to hold chalk better because sometimes it doesnt hold chalk but I dont do it too much because I dont want to ruin it. It is definately one of the because break cues out there. If you ever have the chance to try one you will see why.

I played in a tournament today, and I made it a point not to chalk my sledgehammer during one match. I never miscued. However, I had chalked it previously, and probably will continue to do so just because it one of my mannerisms at the table, and I think it slows me down a bit, which is what I want.
