Sidespin, probably not a measureable amount, I dont think what throw you get, would affect the spread of the balls, just the one ball. It would probably be closer in end results to getting an off center hit on the head ball.
Top and bottom spin is a different story as far as the 1 ball is concerned. With weight behind the ball, the contact between the cueball and the head ball is prolonged. Top spin on the cueball will transfer the opposite (backspin) to the head ball. Draw does the same thing, it will put a little top spin on the 1 ball. If you want to play position for the 1 to come up table on the break (breaking from closer to the side rail), and you want to help the 1 get up there, put some top spin on the cueball. It will help "pull" the ball up table. If you want to fiddle around with making it in the side, see where on the side rail the 1 is hitting, if its low of the side pocket, put a touch of draw on the cueball, and see if it doesnt come closer to the side next time.
Its the same principle as affecting the tangent line of a frozen kiss shot that isnt lined up correctly for a pocket. But with the added weight behind the 1 ball in a 9 ball rack, it seems you can get a little more transfer.
