Breaking English---Poll

Does cue ball English affect object ball movement on the 9 ball break?

It has been calculated that roughly 2% of sidespin is induced on an object ball (coefficient of friction is 0.02). So, I guess the first ball hit (the one) would get that induced spin, but not if it is touching the two balls behind it. Those balls will keep the one from spinning due to induced spin, therefore; the answer to your question is not really. The point of contact has the most affect on what happens to the balls in the rack and how they spread.

You know, english on the cue ball may have a slight affect on the one ball, a very slight effect, but there is no way whatsoever that you could use that to your advantage. You could use it to influence the cueball reaction of the rail, if you want to hit it off to the side of the one and send it to the rail. I wouldn't advise it though. Personally, with a 9-ball break from the side rail the 1 ball is more than likely going to go up table. I like to use a touch of low center and bring the cueball back up table too. Of course that all depends on what the 1 ball is doing that day. I usually decide my break position play after breaking 3 or 4 times.

Sidespin, probably not a measureable amount, I dont think what throw you get, would affect the spread of the balls, just the one ball. It would probably be closer in end results to getting an off center hit on the head ball.
Top and bottom spin is a different story as far as the 1 ball is concerned. With weight behind the ball, the contact between the cueball and the head ball is prolonged. Top spin on the cueball will transfer the opposite (backspin) to the head ball. Draw does the same thing, it will put a little top spin on the 1 ball. If you want to play position for the 1 to come up table on the break (breaking from closer to the side rail), and you want to help the 1 get up there, put some top spin on the cueball. It will help "pull" the ball up table. If you want to fiddle around with making it in the side, see where on the side rail the 1 is hitting, if its low of the side pocket, put a touch of draw on the cueball, and see if it doesnt come closer to the side next time.
Its the same principle as affecting the tangent line of a frozen kiss shot that isnt lined up correctly for a pocket. But with the added weight behind the 1 ball in a 9 ball rack, it seems you can get a little more transfer.

Does anyone have a 9ball break shot that changes the break pattern based on right of left English? Submit a WEI table if possible.

The reason I started this poll is because I noticed some break changes with various English. This is just my observation and may be in error. This may give you the opportunity to make a call ball on the 9 ball break.
I used Super Aramith balls and Simonis 860 and racked tight.

Thanks to Wei Chao for the table instruction--I hope it works. Let me know if this works for you.

I need a little more work on the Wei table. The information is there but the text on the bottom of the page should have been on the Wei table. The second page of the Wei table should have shown the 6 ball going in the side pocket---but the page did not copy.

Yes, IMHO. Sidespin used on the Q ball will push, not really throw because of the lengthened contact, the OB against the other balls in the opposite direction of the sidespin.
