breaking strategies?

You might be pleased to know that I sometimes abandoned the "safe break" in crucial situations policy.

In a team event in '86 (if memory serves), our match against a powerful Minnesota team came down to the final game. I was shooting anchor against Greg Fix, who was a level or two above me.

Ordinarily, I would have played the soft break, but I knew he was also a better defensive player than I, so at the last moment I reconsidered and told my teammates that I was going for the break and run.

And I broke and ran for the win. My teammates probably didn't debate my choice, as that was my eighth consecutive table run that day!

Assuming you had the break in about half those games, how did you manage an 8 pack when you were using the soft break as the default opening shot until the last game?

with your break (low inside) do the balls tend to pile up on the right half of the table, assuming you are breaking on the right half? this is the problem I have sometimes when breaking with the low left.

I have the same problem with the second ball break, not so much clusters but it seems like most of the balls end up along the right rail.

You misunderstood, or didn't read my previous comments. We generally employed the "safe" break only in crucial games. In most of our matches we enjoyed comfortable leads from early on.

Of those eight racks, I broke five of them with a firm break, and the other three my opponent broke dry.

Hell, if I were in Gainesville I'd go get lessons from you haha. That's disgusting!
Imagine if you were in the APA, you might get matched up with guys who are an equal
rank on paper but only run out once every other week.

Ahh, thanks Donny. In that case an 8 pack is no big deal. :rotflmao1::bow-down:
