im a lefty does it matter what side of the table i break from in 9 ball . 8ball i usually break slightly off the center of the table
 
From a rules perspective it does not matter. As far as comfort whatever side feels best is ok. As far as making balls break from the side that the rack is dictating.

I'll add to that, to try breaking from the center, and just a few inches either side of center. Most pros 'find' a "secret" breaking spot, with a little practice. If the table they are on doesn't give up any balls from that spot...they find a new "secret breaking spot" by moving over a few inches!

Check the rack to see which side to break from. It actually can make a difference if you don't have a good break. Similar to the little pendulum toy that moves the little balls back and forth if a ball is loose in the rack anywhere at that point energy is lost in the break. therefore you want to break so that your cue ball is driven through the tightest side of the rack
