Balls are racked 11-1-2-3-4-5-6-7 where do you want to go?

Lot of left english, preferrably a touch of draw just to avoid hitting any follow, medium-hard speed, as thin cut as possible trying to hit the 6-ball going two rails and after hitting the stack the left english will steer the cueball from the long rail towards the center of the table.

I hate this breakshot, that bottom left pocket is huge for scratching off the back of the back. The cueball always seems to find the exact place to contact one of the back balls with a direct tangent line right to the pocket.

I try not to muscle the break shots. Hit it firm enough just to free up a few balls, and enough to escape getting stuck to the rack.

From here you want to hit the left most back of the pack. The 6 ball.

I dont really like this breakshot either! I expect someone to post"Play better patterns so thid is not jow you end up".
Yours is good advice about not muscleing the breakshot. I put donuts under cb and the 12 and shot it 3x. Will post results later.

That's what I was thinking, 2 rails into the 6/7. I'm not a straight pool player though so I would probably hit the wrong ball and get buried in the bottom of the stack. :o

This is exactly the type of a shot where 3-cushion billiards background come in handy. Cueball exit path control after 2-rails is something that every (straight pool) player should learn. I usually get greedy, and try to get more velocity on the cueball by hitting the object ball too thin and end up missing the rack completely :o

Be honest how many call safe -pocket the ball in side-and try to leave stuck in bottom of stack?
I would eat chalk if none of you would play it safe!

That's about as weak a shot as is available. It would be a better safe to pocket the ball and leave the cue ball on the head rail. If would be an even better safe to play the ball and position for a side-of-the-rack safe.

I am not sure about getting to the headrail. Seems you run the risk of hitting the stack.
Pocketing the ball then playing safe is stronger.

I think he meant that even a weak play like going to the head rail is better than pocketing the ball and going to the back of the pile.
