I have pondered this on and off for awhile....

Does anyone here have a breathing routine while shooting a shot?

When you fire a rifle, you exhale, then pull the trigger.

When wieght lifting, you exhale as you lift.

I await responses.

I exhale, relax and fire. For me, everything is most still after an exhale.

Holding you Breath until you Pass out will surely make you mis the Shot...............:)

Try as you do "When you fire a rifle, you exhale, then pull the trigger"....

This is post # 1000 could it be time to rride into the wind.... ? ;)

They teach this in the service when shooting guns. The key is a slow exhale, and to pull the trigger half way through. My league partner is a ex-marine and he agreed with that. Only problem is is does improve your focus and hold you more steady, but after years of shooting one way old habits can be very hard to break!

According to a metaphysics guide I've read, the brain processes information and makes decisions most effectively at the two extremes of inhaling and exhaling.

Either of these times are good points to make decisions during alignment and perhaps executions.

I believe the main reason for rifle / pistol shooting etc after exhaling is that when the breath is expelled, there is less tension in the body and the heart rate tends to slow, meaning it is easier to keep steady.

However, as I have said before on these threads, I think alignment is more a challenge than actual execution. It is not that hard to hit the aim point on the CB if that is what you have decided firmly to do. But it may help some to exhale during this delivery stage.

However, I would recommend you try exhaling just before checking and deciding on your aligment, when you are both steady and in a phase where the mind is better poised for clear decision making.

Just some whacky ideas....:D

I’ve always enjoyed hyperventilating before every shot, keeps the blood flow going. :)

Actually, I believe I exhale before hitting the shot. Although, it isn’t something I do consciously.

Anyway, try asking your opponent this same question when he’s shooting the case ball.

There are a couple of reasons to stop on the exhale when shooting rifles. Number one is that you have less tension at the end of the natural exhale. And as you breath in or out, that shifts the aim since the rifle moves up and down as you breath. You sight your target when you breath out, and when you breath in the rifle's aim shifts upward. When you exhale comfortably, the aim is back on target and you begin to squeeze the trigger. I have tried the exhale then shoot method for pool, but I didn't find much difference. I think breathing is more crucial in shooting rifles for the reason above, but I don't think it is as important in pool. Just be comfortable when you shoot, just let your breathing feel natural.

First, I breathe in. Then, I breath out. After I'm done breathing out, I breathe in again. And so on and so forth.

You have to be careful though. If you forget to breath in once or twice, you can hyperventilate and then you feel all tingley in the fingertips. And that makes for bad shooting.

You guys that have techniques for breathing have to be joking. An old, cliche hustle is to ask a guy you are playing whether he breathes in or out when he shoots, and hope your comment sharks his playing. I bet the poster of this thread had someone ask him that as a shark move and he took it seriously.

Thats simialar to the "Do you push or pull" question.....

I have been told however that forcing yourself to take a deep breath helps during a run out.

I guess when people "focus" they tend to take very shallow breaths or actually hold thier breath...By the end of the rack, your out of air and lose focus...

I am not sure how much stock I take in it, but I don't think breathing will ever hurt....(well..I guess that depends on how much smoke is in the air):D

Get all the smoke out of your lungs first.

Usually I take a long drag off of a cigarette and then exhale all the smoke before I pull the trigger. I discovered that if I exhaled during a shot the smoke obstructed my view of the object ball. Shortly after each shot I begin my preshot routine anew by taking another drag from my cigarette.:D

i dont know about breathing before or during... but i can tell you when it falls in its followed by a long sigh of relief :)
