I see Brian is playing Shane right now on the winners side. I hope Brian snaps it off and gets into the ipt. Brian has many accomplishments in this sport and is probably one of the most underrated players in the country. He plays as good as alot of top pros. As a friend of his, i'm probably a bit biast, what do you all think?

Well, let's start by saying good luck to your friend. I know of him, but don't know much about him or his game.

If he has special accomplishments in competition, what are they? On the forum, we all like to learn more about the players.

Although i'm not sure of all his accomplishments i do know of a few. Brian won the BCA singles 8 or 9 ball this year. Not exactly sure. He may have won the vne also. I know his team won both the vnea nationals and the bca nationals. Brian has won many tournaments incuding the only player to win the Midwest Bartable classic 3 times with tough fields which he beat alex in the finals one year. He is a well seasoned pool veteran who has gambled with almost any top pro that ever gambled and has beaten many of them. I'm sure there are many more im accomplishments im not sure of.

I would say that anyone who finishes in the top two in any of the qualifiers definitely deserves a chance on the IPT. The round of qualifying based on your accomplishments has already been done. Now you have to "get there" to get there IMO

i'm glad to see his name in the finals, he didn't have a good showing at the dcc qualifier which surprised me, i think many people haven't heard of him or denver because they both have stayed under the radar for awhile now, brian won the annual arthritis tourney in evansville last year(8 ball on diamond bar tables), 182 players, payout with the calcutta was $3000, and i believe a lot of the prize pool goes to a arthritis charity, is there a big tourney in indiana he hasn't won? i think he won the vnea state chamionship 2/3 years? and he was runner up the year he didnt win it? he won the pennsylvania state 9 ball championship a few years ago i think he beat mike davis, and didn't he win a semi-annual tourney at southern billiards last year?

Brian told me some of the greatest hustling stories of pool that I have ever heard. Many of them, interesting enough, involved George Breedlove as his road partner. Would be nice to see Brian snap it off & glad to see he has a re-committment to pool.

Brian came through Orlando a few years ago and impressed everyone with his game, especially 8Ball. There used to be a real tough triple-shim Gold Crown at the old Pro Billiards, and Brian played that table as well as anyone I've seen (which includes Nick Varner, Charlie Williams, Buddy Hall, Corey Duell, Johhny Archer, etc). Seems like a real nice guy, too, and since my boy Sparky didn't make it, I'm pulling for him.

I used to

Play Pool with Brian at The Billiard Tavern in Indy in '96-97 on 8' tables. They had some good tournaments going on then. Skeet Buschor, the tournament director, and publisher of The Indianapolis Pool news is the one that nicknamed me 'Snapshot' when I won my first Monthly qualifier tournament there.

Thanks for the info. Please keep us posted. I'll make a prediction here. If Brian wins this he will go on and win the big one. Thanks

Brian Groce

I watched him yesterday and, as he said, he was off his game. He still made it through, proving that he can still win without his best stuff. Very impressive!
Shane has been very hot and I'll be surprised if he doesn't win today. Good luck to all!!

I just met Brian at the DCC but had heard his name prior to that. I only saw one of his matches (9-ball & he won) so I can't give an honest comment on his playing ability but the fact that I've heard of him prior to meeting him is a good thing.

His game aside, I found him to be a very pleasant guy to talk to. Maybe he's different in the pool room, I don't know, but I found him to be soft spoken, which I wasn't expecting from a guy his size. LOL

Best of luck to Brian. I hope he gets in. He's a family man with a wife & kids so he could definitely use the funds! :)

i talked to brian at the dcc and he said "i will be on the ipt because im in the top 50 in the us"..i believe he has just as much if not more talent than a lot of players toady. does the 1on1pooltourney name mean you favor singles tournaments, i think that is the way to go, all these players want all these team events which is not a bad thing, but some of them do so because they have no heart and have to rely on others to carry them and thats also a good excuse for loosing is being able to pass the blame onto someone else, 1 on 1 tourneys makes you a more seasoned player and in the long run you will learn to depend on yourself when the cheese is on the line.

I believe the term 1on1pooltourney refers to he would rather put up his $$$ versus yours and see who the better player is.
