Brumback Banks..."WTF"!!

I'm on the road right now but was told last night that mine had arrived so I'm itching to get home and learn. I'm really curious to find out how wrong I've been hitting the shots as well!

Thanks a lot for the effort guys; maybe this combined with Derby will help generate some interest for more than one big bank tourney every year.

I put my 2c in here. I've already had a couple of "that won't go" comments under the breath, then swish :)

don't know if Im right or not but,

I have changed the way I bank. I have started using nothing but center ball, unless Im playing safe. When Im down on the ball I think of what the object ball is doing only, not the cue ball. Have done pretty good at twisting the ball with center, if that sounds correct. I played in the tourny this weekend and did pretty good, didnt miss much. When I saw people missing it was the cross sides, and they make all make long railers. What is funny about that, we let them shoot long rails and play safe from cross sides, pretty funny. If you watch JB bank you will notice the cue ball do nothing. absolutely amazing, he shoots banks that most anybody has no clue how he makes it. Thats why I think he makes the object ball do the work. And something about center ball makes the pockets play a ball bigger. Troy Jones p.s.Glad I was able to see you play again JB, I really enjoyed it. will see ya all at the Derby

I saw it, wanted it, bot it, watched it, really liked it.

John-Thanks for the insight into how you like to hit them. That's going to change the way we non-bankers hit bank shots for sure.

Now-if we could only see what you see. Just put in 35 years, and it will get real clear, I guess-eh, John.

I'm already looking forward to your next instructional DVD-that you spoke of-strategies, safes, 2way shots-/how to win with the knowledge you shared in this DVD.

Thanks again

Im going to go watch it again....and again.....

ps: Thanks also to Mark Otto for this fine DVD. I especially like the multiple camera angles for each shot series. You get to see all the elements that go into making these shots.

Great job gentlemen.

Thank you! I know what I want to see in a video, and that is what I tried to deliver..Glad you enjoyed it.

Freddy B's Banking with the Beard Comparison?

All,

What are the similarities and/or differences differences between John's DVD's and Freddy's "Banking with the Beard" Vol 1 & 2 and/or "Bank Shots That Don't Go, but Do" DVD's?

I'm not asking anyone to say that either is better or worse; I'm only interested in their similarities and differences.

Thanks,

Muziq

Just purchased a copy. Can't wait to learn from it banks have always been iffy for me. At one moment I think I know what to do and the next I feel my system is all whack.

You want to learn how to bank the proper way, the easy way. Get John's DVD.

In my opinion they are not close to similar.

YMMV but I doubt it!

Banking with the beard and the Brumback DVDs are entirely different.

The banking with the beard series goes a lot more into theory on how english and stroke affect the ball. The Brumback DVD focuses more on how to run a lot of balls.

The one thing I am disappointed about in both of these videos is the fact that they were not shot on diamond tables and neither DVD really goes into bank pool theory and safety play.

I have Brumback's DVD and Banking with the Beard DVD. Both have a wealth of information and I can't say there is a whole lot of direct overlap, mostly because they both have their own methods of teaching. For instance, Freddy's side-step bank is very similar to the core of Brumback's banking fundamentals. They do teach their methods a bit differently.

As for production value, Brumback's is hands down very well done. Although Freddy's information is really good, the droning background music track makes it hard to focus on what he is saying. Also the audio is in one stereo channel, so with headphones you only hear what he says in one ear. A bit annoying. I hope he re-releases the DVD with these fixes.

I hear that! I'd love to find a source of information about bank pool strategy. I find nothing! The closest thing I've found is watching bank pool tournaments and listening to the commentators.

I'm working on that as we speak. Not sure though If It's going to be a book type or dvd.I think I can put It In book form just fine.If I did a dvd on strategy and safes and free shots and two way shots,I would be just standing there talking most of the time. This might be a good time to ask this ? again.Which would you all want?. Yes,I did my first one on how I make banks.Figure ya got to put the horse In front of the cart. And I didn't want to put all my eggs In one basket.Yeah I'm a country hick.LOL Thanks alot for all the feedback and the sales.I appreciate It very much!!!John B.

It's hard to tell if a book or DVD would be better, but I'd think a DVD would be more fun and useful as it is visual and easier to understand and see what you are explaining.

I'd like a book for the next one.

Personally, to learn execution, I would prefer a DVD. To learn strategy, I would prefer a book. A book is easier to re-read and jump around, and I don't think the video medium adds much to a strategy discussion. Others may disagree.

John,

I think a book that comes with a DVD, would be great. For instance, you read about the theory in chapter one of the book, and then watch chapter one on the DVD, to see how that theory is actually executed. Then, you move on to chapter two.

So, the video demonstrates the theory in the book. But at the same time, I would try to make both the book and the DVD so they could stand alone, and be studied independently from each other. Separately, each one would be great. But in combination, they would be killer!

Win, win!

That Is a good Idea!!.I should probably do It that way.Think I will. Thanks John B.

All the shots I shot work good on a Diamond too.Did anyone notice that I didn't have to do many retakes? That's what I'm proud of.Made Marks job alot eaiser.lol John B.

Ditto that idea (book & dvd combo), John. Love the 1st one - lots of help... much of it with things I was tickling good results with, but see a clear path thru now.
One suggestion for future dvd's that I thought could have been an improvement in the 1st one...
Be sure that the camera angles are wide enough to show the diamonds when you're executing/teaching shots. That's an immeasurable help in applying what you're seeing to initial attempts at the table. The 2 & 3 rail in the side shots, for instance. True, you have to work with them to get the feel, but initial angular set up took extra trial & error since I couldn't see clearly the starting lines you used. Have had good success with them, though!!
Look forward to the next round.
Thanks so much for your efforts!
