What happened? Races or just match play?
It was a match in the banks tournament.

Brumback was up 2 to 0.... breaks the balls, and decides to take a break. Goes to the lobby to take a smoke break. I move to the other side of the tv arena to sit with friends. I told Brumback will run a 5 and out when he comes back. I told them what pattern he would run. He comes back, picks the first ball I did, then shoots another ball and goes to other end of the table. Not my pattern, but hes a little out of line,,,, makes this one,,, and then a real tough long rail,,,, makes it,,,,, and runs the 5 to win the set.
Alcano beat Brumback the next set to knock him out. But Brumback ranks with the best bank players to ever live.

I just wondered tho if any of the pinoys and their backers want bank action with John, we hear about all the money they bring to the arena to gamble. Are they willing to put it in action in this type of game? We always hear how they have the best players in the world, well here's another challenge for them to prove it, or do they know they can't win?
i notice the filipinos get knocked like this quite a bit, and id say deservedly so. i watched efren quit one set loser more than any other great player ive ever seen, yet he was playing with people that would lose all night. i think the filipinos are just smart, AND they play great, a deadly combo. i dont think they like that game, and i dont think they'd bet on it if they didnt. one last note, i even watched efren quit on an short stop player while practicing cus he was losing so bad. so odd to me.
Pool is about confidence
If you're getting beat by someone, maybe because you're a little out of stoke, or don't really feel like playing, why would you wanna blow all your dough playing. It's not good for your confidence, or your bankroll...... Plus, if Efren is getting staked, it may be a case where he has to make up any money lost. He's working for a living, by playing pool. Would anyone you know, wanna go do their job, and not get paid?
As for any of them wanting to play John some banks for the cash, I doubt it. Alex, Efren, Jose, and Ronnie Alcano, have all stepped their bank game up a lot. But like you said, they are pretty smart about gambling. John is a couple of steps ahead of almost everyone when it comes to bank.

Sam says it all right here.. Just because you may be better than someone does not mean it's always going to be your day. A smart gambler knows when to put his pride aside and quit when they don't feel like it's going their way..
Being smart sometimes means taking your losses early or not taking a game that might not go your way at a particular time. Nothing wrong with that IMHO...

I know the finals match took place quite late in the a.m. so that may have affected the attendance.

The next match, between Brumback and Alcano, the stands had lost a few, due to the time, and also some gambling matches had started. Shane was giving Scooter the wild 6,7,and 8,,, plus the breaks for 10,000 or so upstairs. A lot of people were watching that, but there was also a few spectators sitting up on the balcony watching the tv table too.
The finals of the bank, didn't get started til close to 2:30 I think. A lot of people had one pocket matches the next morning too.
