Need opinions ,I found a one owner (supposedly) sport king for sale..for 600 4.5x9 is this a good table for money and what should I look. For when I go see it tomorrow

Just buy it. You can do a lot with it.

Here's mine:

Even if you put brand new rubber on it (I would) and re-cloth it
(only an idiot would not) you are still in it less than most
gold crowns, and the truth is this:

A sport king top is the same as a gold crown top as far as
the slate and the 6 rails are concerned.

Whatever you need for restoration parts you can easily find
from Ken Hash

it looks like you have yourself a very good project coming up !

A lot has to weigh in on the value.

Take photos and share of the rail fit and finish, how do the cushions feel? Soft/mushy/hard or hopefully they are firm but full of life like a 22 year old set of buns..

You'll want to look for missing hardware and run your hand over the cloth with pressure to see if you can feel any cracks in the slate... I'll bet you find the slate seams at 25 and 75 yard line have bumps from seam separation..

Don't let me scare you off but remember/have in mind you'll have to invest some money into the table if you want it to be a " players table "
Figure the price of removal and transport of table, 1,000-1,500 for rebuilt/new rails, $300 for cloth, the cost to have the table set up and slates leveled/prices are different by location and mechanic, $200 for a set of top self quality pool balls and a few other extras that will nickel and dime you... Time it's all said and done you could of purchased a new table or tournament used diamond for a few dollars more....
And for the record there is no straight across replacing the cushions with any profile cushion rubber available today unless you want a not so true playing table... The rails will need to be modified at the angle where the cushion adheres to the rail liner to maintain the proper nose height and nose height in relation to the back of the cushion rubber and at the same time keeping the playing field half as wide as it is long 50x100.

Table is dismantled moved to new place n not rest up cloth on it is few yrs old,I know to check slat rail cushion n for hardware..well see to morrow

That's on the high side.
You can get a GC close to that price these days if you look real well.

Make sure the rail rubber is good.

Offer 400 cash.

Buy Simonis for a couple hundred. New facings for the pockets for cheap.

Pay someone to level it. You can put the cloth on yourself not hard.

New set of balls.

You got all you need for a grand.

What profile cushions were used on these? Just curious because of the statement above that Gold Crown Rails are Iinterchangeable with this table.

K55 Profile Cushion Set (6)

This super fast cushion rubber will give you years of quality play and service.
They are full gum-rubber
, A-grade cushion quality unlike extruded rubber which has fillers added.
This K55 profile can be used on Brunswick Gold Crown, Centennial, and Anniversary tables.

Also Sport Kings as they were the low government contract line of tables during
the Centennial / Anniversary era. The differences are in the base of the table,
the skirts, and pocket casting areas. The tops were all interchangeable.

Measures 1 1/4" x 1 5/16".

That's what I understand they were govt issue tables,I'll look at it good,I don't wanna change rubbers n they be deal breaker..I think since I'll be close to a gc price range

Table

The brunswick monarch super speed cushions back then were different than the super speed cushions made today.
The superspeed cushions you'll buy today (k55 profile) does not fit the antique tables properly. You'll have to have modifications/rails rebuilt & new hardware to replace the cushions properly... If you care how the table will play....

I could use tree leaves wadded up and stuffed in the rail cloth to make cushion on a pool table with fresh bed cloth and the table will have action and the balls will roll fine....it's not until the cloth breaks in a few weeks or months later and then the balls don't come off the rail like u know it to and bank or kick shots that you usually make on GC's will not work for you on a table with a improper rail/cushion combo.

Don't think in trying to talk you out of it..... I'm just informing you that there is a lot to a pool table when it comes to playability on a player table.
