No question that Buddy was there in an "honorary" role. That said he stayed close to Johnny and spent a lot of time in the practice room. He was out on the floor watching most of the matches from the player's box, and supporting our players. In fact he may have been there more than some of the players!
Buddy was there as an example for the other players. They all know what a great player and class act Buddy was throughout his career. It's amazing to me that he was never a member of a Mosconi Cup team. But I think I know why. Back in the 90's it's very doubtful that Buddy would board a plane to fly over the Atlantic, and the first nine Mosconit Cups were all played overseas.
How much we could use a few players like Buddy Hall today. He always went about his business in a very professional manner. He would shake your hand, say good luck, and then shove those balls up your ass! After he demolished you, he would shake your hand again and talk to you about the good shots you made, and the one or two racks you managed to win. I know of what I speak. I got this treatment twice!
