Buffing a cue

I spray my cues i use omni au161 acrlic urathane and a sata jet get a good lay down .I wet sand to match the joints with my sanding mandrels .I wet sand to 12000 working my way up to that starting with 800 unless theres a spot that needs something more course. It is real smooth when im ready to polish .It allready has a little sheen on it from the 12000 but trying to polish and get that real nice shine i cant seem to get it .Ive sanded with the grain and spinning the cue and get the same results . Just think it needs to be better . Also slow and high speeds both just looking for some help .Thanks Bill CamargoRedCues

Bill, I use System 5 from Barringer. It works great for me. Im sure there are different ways but thats what I use and my cue get a good shine to them. I think its only $35 and it lasts for about 25-30 cues. Cant beat that. Cheap enough to try anyway.

I have seen finish that just does not buff all that well unless you use the same brand of buffing material. I used to think it was a conspiracy to sell their own products. Kind of like people using really weird threads on their cues, so no one else can make a shaft for it. What type of buffing material are you using? It sounds like you are doing things right, but just don't have the right buffing material.

Mensurna Products are great with a buffer. No scratches. 12" donet flannel wheel at 1100 RPM. Speed and heat factor are very important.

Clean buffing wheel and polishing wheel between every buff step.

well first off spraying omni with a Sata jet ??? most expensive gun on the market (kinda) and one of the cheapest clears on the market??? get a better clear first, back when i sprayed for a living we used omni everyonce in a while on cheapo insurance jobs that were already cutting our throats but typically we used RM and that is some great clear. you have top look at the clear your using or ask someone sells what % it will buff back to its original shine.

as far as buffing i use http://www.tcpglobal.com/detailsupplydepot/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=MAL+114732 with either a old cut up T-shirt or decent paper towell, i use about a nickel size drop and rubin into the cue untill it looks like its alsmost all gone except a slight residue let that sit spinning on the lathe for a min or so to dry up then come back with a clean towell and wipe all of it offf when its gone it should be very shinny and it only takes a few minutes.

I spin the cue at about 800 rpm and I use a water borne urethane finish.

I use wet sand 600, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 paper. Then I use turtle wax white polishing compound, then Meguiar's Plastx, Meguiar's Swirlx, Meguiar's show car glaze, Meguiar's carnuba gold class wax.


Don't use a "cleaner" wax as they contain abrasives. Do not use anything with silicones in it.

This gives a beautiful shine...... try it, it will surprise you.
