I have acquired 3 piece slate for a 7' Connelly table, 1 1/4" in thickness. I am in design mode and having way too much fun with Sketchup. I am to the point where I am laying out rails and pockets and am finding myself in a dilemma. Do I build the pockets as Connelly would have or should I do something different? I am leaning toward something different. Connelly uses 143 and 101-2 (had a hard time measuring the side angle on the table I was inspecting) pocket angles with 5" corner width and 5 1/2" side. Those widths seem generous and am leaning toward 4 1/2" and 5" respectfully with pocket angles of 141 and 102 degrees. I am still unsure. I will be starting on the frame and base sometime in the next few weeks so I have time before I need to decide on the rails.
That is where you all come in. What are your suggestions for pocket dimensions, angles and types of cushions. And please give your reasons.
If it helps, this table will be used primarily by me for practice purposes. Most of my competitive play is on Valley bar boxes. Also, on this slate, a 4 1/2" corner mouth would give me a shelf of 1 7/16".
Thank you in advance.
