Building you're own CNC Gantry...

I had a look at making my own Gantry type of CNC machine. I guess this has been done by many, but
my plans was immediately put on hold when I found the prices on the components.

I had a look at http://www.hepcomotion.com/db_pages/products/prod_list.php?cat=driv
where I thought that the PSD120 would be great to use in the XYZ directions but the quoted
price for one of these was close to $2760 !!! For one axis !!! I was really not keen on machining
the needed parts my self, but I guess this is effect of the pricing Hepco has. Is there any
one which has made there own with some cheaper components, maybe from Asia?

Stepper engines, controllers and SW are available...

There are lots of great products and ideas out there, the trick of course is finding them. If you really want to build a CNC router gantry system, register over at www.cnczone.com , it's perhaps the best resource on the 'net for this kind of endeavor. As an example, there is a forum titled "DIY-CNC Router Table Machines" (one of about 100 forums), and it has 128 members viewing it as I post this message.

Have fun :)

I have looked and registrated on CNCZONE and I have also posted there. However, nobody has replied where I asked about prizes in other countries than my.

I did have a look at K2 as well, but are't these finnished - ready to go...
A small config run at their page ended with close to $4300..

If you are looking to save money, It's a tough game.
If you seek the satisfaction of building your own set up,
that's a dif story.

There was a fellow who offered kits/plans and all the components required. It uses plywood for the frame, I don't have a clue if this machine<?> would hold the tolerances needed for inlay work up to today's
expectations. The site is something like hobbycnc??

I have also seen sites by guys who have built small engravers out
of scrap printer parts and such - again, precision doubts emerge.

Google is handy - a search of 'diy cnc, hobby cnc, homebrew cnc', etc, will yield millions of hits.

For components on the cheap, there is always Fleabay,
don't forget the 'caveat emptor' part.
