Burning a cue

My father was a custom cabinet maker and one of the more popular styles he did was burning the exterior with a torch before applying the finish. I always remembered the burnt cabinets look great you could really see the grain of the wood.

Has anyone tried doing this to a cue, heating the wood up like this I guess could cause it to warp. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it.
Thanks Will

I've seen a Tad like that.
Literally FLAMED maple. lol
I don't think he does it anymore.
Wood no like heat.

I have seen cheap Asian carved cues done that way. Actually it did look pretty good.

Cooked cues

I believe there is a company out there that does torching of designs on cues. They advertise in Inside Pool magazine. They try to have an old west theme. Can't remember their name though.

I think the flamed/carved cues are sold under "Maverick"...

too early for my brain to be taxed by the thought process.....lol

Burning a Cue

I believe the process is called "jin-di-sugi" and it works best with wood that
has contrasting hard and soft growth patterns.

Look at Outlaw cues....They do designs and burn the wood to create a "western" theme to them....
