My thoughts

I think if the Effie and SVB match started at 9 pm and not 12 am that the outcome may have been a little different. effie looked fresh and in stroke at the begining and then got tired. You may say thats a lame excuse.. But if you watched the match he faltered as time got later. I tip my hat to SVB , but would love to see a rematch start at 9 or earlier...

No way is that a lame excuse. he's getting older it's only natural he can't stay up as late as he used to

Ok but you could say the same for the SVB vs. Bustamante match. SVB just came of winning the 9 ball and ten days of playing pool and he starts a tough action match at 1am.

Efren is known for his all night playing and gambling binges. All top pool players and also all diehards know what it's like to play marathon sessions, play when you are tired, play in crowded spots and so on.

I think both matches were played superbly (tough to say for someone who couldn't watch either one) and while there are plenty of factors which may have tipped the outcome one way or the other the fact is that both sets were very close and intense. No one ran away with it and it only sets the stage for more to come.
 
There should be no excuses, Efren lost and SVB won. On the 2nd game, Django won and SVB lost.

It is also true that Efren is getting older and I think he is really due to retire soon. Don't get me wrong, Efren still has a lot of game in him, but not as sharp as 5yrs ago. Every pool player in the Philippines has all their respect and attention when Bata speaks. That's the Magic that Bata has that no other pinoy pro player ever have.

Django has some more years left, but not that long anymore. The baton has to be handle over very soon to the young guns like Ronnie Alcano, Dennis Orcollo, Alex Pagulayan and Lee Van Corteza.
