Busy Week Collecting Palmers

The Palmer collector adventure continues. I'm going to be doing some updates to my site shortly and I'll let everyone know when they're in. I have more information and more cues to show.

Half the fun of collecting cues is finding them. You never know where a rare cue might pop up. Well, this week everywhere I went they kept dropping on me. My network of on-line friends has paid big dividends in gathering information. When they have a collectible Palmer for sale, they think of me and I appreciate it.

My first big prize was finding a Model 20 in near perfect original condition at a tournament. It came complete with the two inlaid shafts and a thrid playing shaft. Finding one and finding one at the right price are two different adventures. This one was priced just right and I am thrilled with it.

Then I got what had been eluding me from an on-line friend, a beautiful Szamboti forearm Model K from the 2nd catalog. This cue is simply stunning and the Szamboti points are perfect. The price was right and the cue is beautiful.

It's hard to get really excited about a humble Palmer model #5, 3rd catalog bar cue bought on E-bay, but when you open the box and find one that was played for an hour or two about 30- years ago and is perfect, that will do it!

Here are some pictures:

Have fun!

WOW Chris, those are really something. Somehow, though, I have a feeling that what your idea of "the right price" is and what my idea would be are probably miles apart. But your quest has sure paid big dividends. Congrats!

Adios,

Chris,

Nice deals! Now, what are you going to do with that other model #20 you've got? Guy just shouldn't have too many of those, you know! Did you see the newest Palmer on Ebay? The one with the MOP butt (NOT the #17). Looks like a custom job to me. I saw the #5 come up for sale and immediately looked at your collection to see if you had one, as I had sold you the #4. When I realized you didn't, I thought there's no sense in running up the bid for Chris as it looked brand new... ;) Gorgeous "K" too! Well, if you need to make some room for those new cues, I could probably be talked into making room in my closet... Take care!

Regards,

Steve

Steve,

That's too funny. You knew I needed that cue! What a friend.

There were several really nice Model 5's that came up, but I thought they should go cheap and pow, they would get bid up. I kept geeting outbid, so I -mailed the lady an offer. She turned it down, so I put in a Bidnapper bid for $500. I thought about it, and I went back and changed it to $600. I thought bout it some more and went back and changed it to $700. I figured if some stupid jerk would pay more then that, he deserved it! Good thing I went up because I ended up getting it for $635. Now, that's a lot for a bar cue Palmer but this is in such good original shape I'm happy.

FYI there's nothing on E-bay right now I'm going after (for various reasons). The one listed today for $1000 might be a G but the pics are so bad, who can tell? I asked for more pictures - I just want to check the forearm. I have no interest in any of the others.
