I was just curious what you guys thought about how the buy back option
would work in a smaller local tournament ?After I went two and out tonight
I mentioned it to the tournament director and he said he would give it some
thought .I think it would be a good thing and increase the payouts and bring
in more players .

I don't see how it will generate additional money.

And it still boils down to double-elimination.

There are a LOT of people who will pay 150 bucks or so to enter an open-style compeition for the thrill of it and many...like me...hope to draw Efren in the first match.

Diamond certainly has the data on what percentage of Round 1 entrants buy back in but I'll just take a WILD guess and say that it is less than 75%.

Any number below 100% shows that the buy back option generates money that would not otherwise be there.

Regards,
Jim

I don't play in many local tournys because they don't start until 8pm (seems like they wait for people who are late) and by the time they finally get over its 1pm-2pm, that is just too late for a working man who has a busy day the next day. I think the buy back would just make it last longer. I have been in the hot seat at 1am and just told the director to give me 2nd place money and I am out of here because there were still 4 or 5 guys in the losers bracket. Just my 2c.

i usually don't have to be there that late tom, but buy backs have been used for many years in drag racing and do generate more money. i have seen some poker tournaments with them also and you can buy back more than once:eek: . jmo. hey tom give me a holler, later

I have played in a few tournaments with the buy back option. Honestly liked it because you have the choice of whether or not to make it double elim.

Have never heard any complaints from the players about it

that avitar just made my morning, yum yum.:D the buy back would also only be good if you redrew after every round wich would cause it's own problems. otherwise people with a tough draw wouldn't and easy draws would. but you coul just keep the chart coverd:rolleyes:
