Buying a Gold Crown, some questions or home model...help

I'm probably going to buy a used 9' Gold Crown, but tossed around the idea of a used home model to save money. Does anyone know if the pockets on home models are cut the same as the Gold Crown? do the rails play similar? whats the biggest difference?

Are all the models of Gold Crowns pockets cut the same? I think I read the shelf was deeper on earlier ones, but I assume the III's,IV's are pretty much the same cut/shelf size.

Can I safely buy a dismantled table, or are there risks? If a table is already dismantled, how do you check the rails?

I assume the slates are matched, are they marked so I know I'm getting matched slates I assume that's important?

Is slate being warped or crowned a problem? how often does that happen, I honestly never heard of this before.

What other conditions do I need to look for?

As far as prices I have been seeing...
I have been looking at past sales on this site and Craigslist, and prices are all over the board, but for the most part it seems if I'm real lucky I can find deal for around 1000, but sales seem to average 1200-2000, so I assume 1500 including light/centennials is a good deal. I just want to make sure I know everything I need to before doing something so making sure I have enough information.

I already have looked into a professional mechanic to move and install, with new 760 cloth etc.. so I know what that cost and what it entails, I feel that part is important so I don't really want to do it myself, now I just got to find a nice table:-)

Lots of questions as you can see, but better to have as much info as I can have:-)
Thanks for any input, it all helps.

on a 1000 table just plan on replacing the rubber. Usually they are funky and need it anyway. Get the Artemis cushions and use 860 Simonis. Tighten up the pockets abit and you're good to go. Get a GCI or II. They feel really solid.
Be prepared to spend 700 to 1000 on set up by a PRO, rubber and cloth. If you don't skimp, your table will last a long long time.

I bought the GCIII and love it. There are some good deals on this site, where do you live. Mine was still set up and it worked out good because I could play some shots on it. You can't see the slate when it is set up but you can play on it and test the cushions. If it is already torn apart, I would make sure all the parts are there, you might need a table guy to go with you. The size of the pockets can be altered my the person who sets up the table for you. I left my at 5in because it is a home table. I would only buy a GC because they are just as cheap as the home tables at this time. I live in Orlando and found a table in Daytona, so just keep looking and you will find the correct one. Hope this helps, Tom

Thanks for the reply's, I am doing my best to stick with a GC, just wanted to know if the Brunswick home models have similar cut pockets as a GC. I know the GC will hold value better, but I have seen a few Brunswick home models go really cheap lately so I had to give it a thought.

Any other help with what to be careful of would be helpful. One thing I really want to know is whats the deal with slate warping? I never ever heard of this and it's very interesting to me how this could happen, can someone explain it to me and tell me if it's really an issue at all on Gold Crowns. I guess I want to do my best to avoid any mistakes, so it's nice to know as much as I can.

Thanks guys.
