Just a heads up, for anyone who hasn't heard....Bally's is being rebranded as the Horseshoe, beginning this spring. So don't be surprised if you see the location name change to The Horseshoe, by the time the event rolls around.

With the US Open 9-ball at Harrah's Atlantic City and now the Mosconi at what will be the Horseshoe, one must assume that Matchroom is developing its relationships with Caesar's properties.

There is some argument to be made on who should be on the team, but it is clear who shouldn't be on the team. Chris Reinhold. Good guy but he just isn't close to good enough. Nor is he good enough to be on there to be "developed for the future" because even then there would still be a number of much better choices. Unfortunately Chris is a good buddy of Jeremy's so we may yet again see him on the team to the detriment of everybody.
It is real tough not to want to hook your buddies up with a guaranteed paycheck worth tens of thousands and the once in a lifetime experience because they are your buddy and not because they are the best pick (the Joey Gray co-captaincy being another example).
I know where you are coming from, but I see this differently. If memory serves, the first three spots on Team USA will be assigned by Matchroom based on Matchroom ranking. If Chris earns his spot that way, he will deserve it. If he narrowly misses based on ranking, he deserves consideration for a wild card.
I agreed with Chris being selected last year as he showed very good form at the International in October, including a win over Tyler Styer that eliminated him and a very close match with Fedor Gorst.
If you are merely saying that Jeremy must weigh Chris' play at the 2021 Mosocni Cup in evidence when he names his wildcards, I agree.
I really don't think Jeremy will go out of his way to place any of his buddies on the team.
Totally. He doesn't have what it takes to get the job done in that scenario. In a tournament with no crowd? Sure. But in that environment? NOPE
If he earns his spot that way, there isn't much you can say, except perhaps, depending on the circumstances, the possibility that a discussion may need to be had that the criteria may need to be adjusted.
In that case he deserves to get in only if there is reason to believe he would play better in the Mosconi than every other American who was available and willing. Unless he significantly increases his skill level (and learns not to be a total dog under big pressure), and also probably a dozen other players significantly decline in their skill levels, then he has almost no chance of deserving a wild card based on merit.
Not a chance he deserved it (or the time before). He was like the 37th best player in the US. His tournament results didn't do anything to move him much higher in consideration than that either. And to make matters worse than starting as 37th best, he is a TOTAL DOG under the Mosconi pressure. At Mosconi he plays more like 100th best in the US, if that. You can't put somebody on the team that isn't that great to begin with AND they also dog their brains out on top of it too.
I think it is pretty clear he already has, several times, and with more than one person, and so there is no reason to think it won't happen again.
