Why?

should you have to buy a 'toy' at all. I have heard you are a very good player to begin with??????

But, if you go ahead, I would go with the Laser trainer, the Breakrak gets old fast (play with it for 1-2 months and then put it up and never use it again), and it doesn't show you the action on the other 14 balls when you break.

I noticed the Breakrak was over $200. Why don't you just take 4 advanced lessons from an instructor instead? (assuming $50 per lesson).

You make some good points, well, all except the part about me being a very good player. :o

Joey:

Why a choice those specific two CPTs? I ask, because if you're interested in laser-anything, how about something that identifies and illuminates problems in your stroke (e.g. hitches, corkscrewing, et al.)?

Take a gander at the LaserStroke:

http://laserstroke.com/

I have one, and anytime I'm working on my fundamentals, or if I've had a bad set / bad showing in a tournament, etc., and I want to identify anything wrong with my cue delivery, I'll break this out and play with it on my cue for a bit. I can't tell you how many times I'd discovered I was doing something in my stroke (e.g. slight imperfections in my grip that introduce yaw in my stroke), I fix it, and I feel a bit better that I at least identified the problem.

(I don't do the "spot on the wall" method that they show in the video -- I don't like the idea of marking my wall. Instead, I'll practice where I'll line-up the vertical laser line on one of the vertical lines in the grid on the hanging calendar on the far wall, and stroke through trying to keep that vertical laser line lined-up without variance or rotation. It's very challenging!)

Thoughts?

I'll consider this as well. Thanks Sean!

No doubt about it. The Breakrak. It's probably the greatest "CPT" ever created. You probably don't need help aiming balls to go in. Many people probably agree that pocketing balls is the easiest part of pool. The most important shot is the break, and this thing is great for repeated practice of the break. I'm sure the Laser Trainer is great too.

I would no doubt have to go with the BreakRak. I really think that CPT, as you so eloquently put it would produce the best improvement in your game. Whenever I sell my house and get one large enough to house a 9 foot table I will most definitely have one.

I like

I like the justa bridge as good as any "tool" I purchased outside my cue. However it sounds like you are looking for a instruction type tool. For instruction I would suggest a camera or a mirror.

That's a tough one.

I bought the Break Rak and it was borrowed from me immediatey. The little time I spent with it was tremendously productive. I think it's fantastic if you want to improve your power breaks.

Joe Tucker's Laser Aiming Trainer - I have been coveting this for a long time. I don't know why. I think it's because I like the idea of being able to project a straight line and stroke down that line. It looks neat to have and I like just about everything Joe Tucker has put out. I think it's probably a good device to check the shot picture and see how well you were able to find the line without it. I have the idea that it would be great for instructors.

If I HAD to choose then I'd probably go with the laser trainer. I like the idea of becoming a better shotmaker more than I like the idea of working on my break.

I am on the fence with all of the suggestions.

The BreakRak might be shelved after a short period of time or even sold if it is not in use. The LaserTrainer by Joe Tucker could be utilized by others at the pool room as well and maybe rented out for those with a passion for precision. The LaserStroke device is interesting as well.

As to the pool lessons suggested, I always get those whenever I am around top players. In July at the Gem City Classic, I will be getting a lesson or giant proportions. I understand that Matt90 is going to be giving me my first lesson of the weekend and I am always willing to learn.

Everyone makes good points.

Are there any other CPT that have helped your game? (no books, no instruction, no videos---I've got most of those.:D)
