C1 vs Scruggs Sneaky, which would you rather?

The C1 is harder to find, which would you prefer?

I'd take the Scruggs for me I have never liked the McD hit I have owned three different Scruggs sneaky each one hit good the two McD's i've had did not like the feedback.

For collectability sake id also go with Scrugg I think his name will always demand more interest than an old production cue.

Just my opinion

Collectible

McDermott C-1, I assume.

^^^Beat me to it.

I have yet to find more than 1-2 McDermott C1s for sale, Scruggs (Frey built) come up on a regular basis. Dollar for dollar a playing cue from Frey is the best you can buy. I'm not a reseller for Bob, just telling the truth.

I really like the hit of a C-1, with a medium or hard tip. A search of these forums and eBay will reveal that the McD doesn't come up for sale as often as a TS sneaky. Whether that means fewer were made, more folks are holding on to the C-1s, or whatever, I have no idea. That said, I have neither and want both, bad.

The C-1 is indeed very hard to find. They were made out of Katz house cue blanks. Jim McDermott requested that the Katz company should provide the blanks in raw form and way oversized, but they just sent them almost finished house cues. The result being, that the joints were kinda small and with the big pin being used, they were subject to break very easily.

If you want a really nice sneaky, the imported Star S-1 has a substantial joint diameter, and hits as well if not more solid than any of the domestic McD's made in the past.

The only reason that the Scruggs have such a demand is this site. Endless touting and claims that it is the best sneaky ever made. Hence, people are lined up to pay ridiculous prices for a house cue conversion. Even Timmy giggles every time someone forks over 500 plus for a bar beater.

I have a C-1 that I have had for years. It is OK. Never had a Scruggs sneaky. The best sneaky I have is my Roger Pettit. Not even close. Just cannot see paying big money for what looks like a bar cue.

I agree 100% with this. It's just my opinion. That being said, I've never even seen either of the cues the OP mentioned. I do have an M11B that's awesome, but that doesn't help you.

I think the scruggs sneaky plays better, depending on how much the shaft has been messed with. From a value stand point the scruggs isn't going to go down in value. The c1 probably won't be worth anymore than you pay for it, usually couple hundred.

Lot of good playing sneaky's out there, like the one I have now more than any of the scruggs I've owned.

When I used to live in VA in the late 1990's I used to see a lot of TS cues around and didnt think much of them. Then I moved to Japan and met a pool hall owner who collected them. I was shocked because I thought TS was just a local name around VA MD. I went ahead and bought one and was hooked. I swear I could feel a fly land on my cue.

I don't know, they were in high demand before AZ existed.

Scruggs without any doubt, every Mcdermot I have ever hit with was to soft. Every Scruggs I have ever hit with was very good to exceptionaly amazing. And if you can't get a Scruggs sneaky pete I have heard really good things about Frey's.

To the OP : truthfuly

If you play so bad that you have no clue, consider taking up golf.

Who are you?

Please visit Bob Frey's new website for up to date news at
http://freycues.com

Bob will make your stick anyway you want, you just have to ask!

I've enjoyed a couple conversations with Bob and love the refinish he did on my Scruggs sneaky and the way my Frey Sneaky plays. My avatar has both in the pic, I'm guessing you are his new web designer and are trying to steer traffic, but it is not coming off as genuine in my opinion, and I can guarantee Bob comes off as genuine. If others think I'm being rude please let me know, but IMHO Bobs cues sell themselves, he doesn't need someone coming off as a silly promoter.

Jamie, THx for reaching out and letting me know that you are a friend of Mr Bob Frey and setup his website out of respect and no personal gain. If I was buying a sneaky right now, I'd buy a Frey. 100%
