CA vs CO - state/cities with most tournaments

go on FB and check out the local pool player pages of the towns you are interested in. That should give you a pretty good feel. Theres five or six groups out here in CO that are all just copies of each other, all getting the same posters for league and tournaments pretty much every day.

There’s a $10-$20 entry tournament just about every single night of the week all within about an hour's drive of each other.

i dont know what im doing wrong but ive mostly encountered league players or folks that only want to gamble around here. It thats your speed you might like it a lot
Thanks. I am a member of Denver pool group and also SoCal/Sacramento/San Diego pool groups. What I am mainly interested in is - tournaments that report to fargo (non-handicapped or not), BCA leagues for 9 or 10 ball - and all of this on 9 footers. Possibility for some good non-$ challenge matches (Salotto etc). Icing on cake would be a pool hall with all-day (including weekend) or monthly rates (have a couple here in LV, hence. Don't know if that is the norm in all places).

i believe Mile High Billiards has some sort of deal where you can pay a flat rate to shoot all day. i saw a post on their page about it and inquired if it was always available but they didnt respond.

Felt is half price hourly rates before 4pm and its very affordable. When i asked them about monthly rates they told me they dont offer that. Felt is easily the best billiard hall ive ever been to.

theres no shortage of league here. I dont know anything about submitting to fargo but the posters on the Fb Group are very active, shoot some messages and make some friends.

as far as 9 footers go there are quite a few here. Downtown has 3 bars chock full of 9 footers but those are more banger hangouts. As mentioned, felt And mhb have several

Thats Sad... Dead... So end up in great bunch of snow... Wow... Guy
It is sad. There’s just not much pool in la considering the population. It’s just faded into the past. In greater la as well.

Vegas pool scene is probably better than ever or equal to its best times for sure. The action in pool in Vegas is at its best for sure-soon as I moved. :(

Northern California pool is still solid. It’s much better than SoCal for sure. Used to be equal in the 80’s I’d guess. I played extensively in both. SoCal & NorCal are 2 different worlds. Central Ca used to be pretty strong for pool as well-I think it’s faded a bit in the last 20 years.

That’s the Ca rundown.

Phoenix was a brilliant place to play in the late 80’s to mid 90’s. Lots of ok players who would gamble and were decent guys to play. Great times there. I’d drive down from vegas to play there often. I’ve heard it’s faded a bit.

I’ve heard in the rail for years and known many players from Denver and always heard the same thing-great pool city. I have never played there. Salt lake is close as I got.

Best

Looks like the consensus is leaning towards Denver : )
Now let's see if I can afford rents in a year........

Well anyone with 1/2 brain would go to Denver to see how it done well.

Visit Bars and Room that are thriving.

Then put info to work in own bisiness.

What do you mean by this?
basically, i mean this:
"make some friends" - an introvert's worst nightmare 😊
i have yet to find anybody that just wants to play the game, maybe discuss each others shots and choices and english, somebody like me that gives you the money ball when you end up good on it, and maybe just maybe have an intelligent conversation after the game.

so far, i've just found people that want to rob me or dont have time to play with me because of their league.

Last time I was in Denver this is how it went-showed up to Felt and league was just getting done. Saw an old friend that had moved away years ago and played 8 ball for a couple hours for fun. He left and I played cheap one pocket with a stranger until close.
Next day I went to mile high and played on the special. Guy comes over after I was there for an hour and asks to play. I ask cheap, free, races, or what? He says I was watching you play, liked my game, asked if we could just hit them around.

Later, went to a small 8 ball tournament at felt. Met a guy during the tournament, played some cheap 10 ball in between matches. He then offered to play at his house and said he could invite other players too. I would have had I had more time.

I found every kind of game a guy could want in 2 days. Had a great time!

It might be worth joining the league just to meet people and find the games you're looking for

thats super cool! i'm glad you had such a good time out here, it just goes to show you that the opportunity is widely available in colorado.

the truth of it is i'm just not that good and there is nothing appealing about league play to me. any gambling for me would just be throwing my money out the window. so i just shoot by myself, and honestly i don't really mind, except my opponent is kind of sharky ;). i guess if i wanted some company badly enough i would try harder to achieve that goal. thanks for the advice pal

I really enjoyed it. I understand the league thing. I don't play them either. One session when you're new to an area helps get a quick synopsis of the players in the area. Good, bad, or indifferent, you get the scoop in a few weeks.
Nothing wrong with playing with yourself 😉
No pressure, you quit when you want, and it's always fun!

I only play BCA for the minimum membership/nationals participation (if i participate), and because there isnt slop allowed :D Otherwise its just practice, and the oh so rare tourneys here on 9 footers.

I heard that when I was there. All those 9fts and all tournaments are on the 7. Also no one pocket tournaments... Seemed to be enough players for it.

Yeah, for some reason - all the multi-benjamins and rad sounding tournaments and then you see - 7 footers? wth? Oh well, to each their own.
Not for me, so I guess I should just shut up and move :)

Bar boxes are not real Pool tables IMHO.

They are like “Ladies Tees” in Golf.🤮

At Felt the bar boxes are busy and they have leagues and tournaments on them.
They help pay the rent Cowboy.
Sometimes on Saturday there is a end of season league tournament and it's packed and the Calcutta over the PA is loud and annoying but it supports the $3.50 an hour between 10 and 4 to play on really good Diamond tables, doesn't bother me at all.
