How or why can a person "banned" continue to post? In addition to violating several criminal statutes regarding menacing and harassment this piece of human garbage resorted to racial slurs. Most jurisdictions now have a "computer crimes task force " to investigate internet threats.I request that AZB forward information regarding "charliel" to the Federal and State authorities.

Ken,

It's common knowledge that the site administraters allowed him back.

I, for one, am glad they did because, IMO, his trangressions didn't warrant permanent banishment.

Come on, Ken. :nono: Let's play nice. :canoodle: You know CoCo isn't dangerous. :poke: There's not even a remote comparison that can be made between him and that CharlieL guy. :bash: :bash: :bash:

Gotta go now.  :outtahere:

p.s. Sorry, Ken. I couldn't resist.

Man ... that's too funny although I got a headache from all the emoticons ...

charliel could come back here if he knew exactly how to do it. Anybody can be banned and still come back if they know enough....

You mean there is internet reincarnation? Cool! I'd like to come back as a straight shooting 18 year old with my pool knowledge intact. Oh, and look something like Brad Pitt. Hey, I can dream. :D

I could be banned and come back posting from a Costa Rica IP tomorrow with a yahoo email/hotmail email addy. Nobody would notice unless they knew my posting habits, etc. I wont go into detail to give others ideas on how to do it but because their IP is banned doesnt mean much IMO.

Ain't it the truth.

What is unsettling is seeing the REGISTRATION dates that some of the "banned" ones joined this forum.

For example, Charliel registered in November 2006, made two posts.

He didn't resurface until yesterday -- July 2008 -- and made 14 posts.

He had 16 posts altogether and was soon banned.

For somebody to create multiple identities on a forum, saving them for future use, is just plain sick. In fact, the more I think of it, the more I am beginning to recognize some other multiple identities on this forum, i.e., words spelled wrong, writing style, et cetera.

Just because you type everything in all caps or all lower case doesn't hide every single little characteristic.

They can't even ban IP's, only screen names, if I correctly remember what Mr Wilson said about it at one time. Banning IP's would at least be a great start. Heck, just banning the screen name would be a good start in some cases since banning certain deserving members appears to take an act of Congress.

The banning of screen names doesn't stop someone from coming back and creating a new identity.

That said, I have seen several members of this forum decide they want to get rid of their old identity and get a new forum name. I've done it, Cornerman has done it, John Barton Collins has done it, Eydie Romano has done it when she wanted to have her own name and not her husband's forum name, et cetera.

If someone has been banned one, two, maybe three times on this forum, is there a way to prevent them from creating a new identity and coming back on this forum a fourth time with a new name?

From what I understand, if you ban the IP address, you could be banning other good-standing members who use that same IP address as the "banned" one or offender, and so that doesn't work.

I am not hip to computer technology. The only way I recognize repeat offenders is their writing styles. Anyone who visited RSB NewsGroup is well aware of the multiple identity problem, a technique used by mentally/emotionally challenged individuals.

They can only ban by screen names and nothing else. The only way, to my knowledge, to identify banned members who return is by their writing style. They might be able to manually compare the IP address of one member to that of a banned member to see if it is a match if they get suspicious, but there is no way to ban based on IP with the software they use from what I understand from what they have said in the past.

That confirms exactly what I was told too, Poolplay9. :)

For example, a university student could register at a college campus under one IP. When they graduate, they could register at their parents' home under a new IP. Then they could have a third IP at their work site.

It truly is like Whack-a-Mole sometimes in Forum Land. :o

Add to the fact that you can change your IP address in about 20 seconds. If you don't know how, it can take a bit longer Googleing, and finding out how.
