Calling out the POOL PRESS....

Confused??

New member
I consider the Reno tournament to have been the "Superbowl" of Pool. In that light, what do you think would have happened if THOSE players did not get paid? CNN, ESPN, FOX - every major news or sports agency would have been all over it. Yet, here in the lowly Pool and Billiard world, we are left to do our own discovery and detective work on the SINGLE LARGEST STORY to hit our industry EVER. This is even bigger news than the tournament itself (which is such a shame....). Yet our "Pool Press" is nowhere to be seen. They are not scoping out the truth for us, they are not hitting KT, DENO and the IPT with the hard questions and most of all, they are failing to give us any information! I do realize that they are worried about getting their advertising cash from the IPT but they better start worrying about their circulation. I, for one, am cancelling my subscriptions to all 3. They come up for renewal very soon and it does me great joy in not renewing. In my eyes, there is no valid reason why they have failed us in view of coverage of this event.

I am very close to one of the IPT players involved and am upset at the thought of the anguish that this player has been put through and I realize that all of the players have been put through this along with others that are due something. There is absolutely NO reason why they are having to wait for information. If KT doesn't provide adequate information, then it is the job of the press corp for our industry to get their hands dirty and find out for us. It isn't just reporting tournament results and all of the good things about pool, you have to report the bad too.

I will stand with the "DUDE" if he goes public with this - to the National Press, but I really think we have to start with our own POOL press.

Just sign me "Confused" -
because I just can't understand why.............

Condused??...I am also shocked that the Pool Press has generally avoided this story like the plague in spite of the fact that it is essentially the biggest story in pool for YEARS.

I am, however, not at all surprised that the general media has not covered it. The sad fact is that in general, America simply does not care about professional pool sports.

Jim

In the big picture, this could not benefit the industry in general. I say let it blow over and bygones beeeeeeee. If the public has no real concern, why should we give them the negative press they so daily feed upon. One persons actions should not be allowed to drag the game backwards, especially with KT's background, I wonder how Deno is doing, he's one of us.

I couldn't agree more. The last thing the currently disinterested public needs is anything to help cement the perception of sleaziness in pool. Keep it in the family, and rebuild it squeaky clean.

Raise the BS flag Doug.

Where was the media prior to the event? When there was a tournament with 5 million dollars in prize money.

Now that they held the event and the payout was not made where is the media? At least they could have received some answers from KT.

And the media does include the billiards magazines.

They just don't care.

We do not write our own articles, we post what is sent to us. This is usually around 1200 articles a year (across all the pool sites we have - aobut 90).

If someone wants to write an article, I'll ensure it gets published and then picked up elsewhere..

ID,
Wow, I think many would disagree with you on this point. Actions speak louder than words. Forget Deno's background, forget KT's background, forget the "nice guy" attributes of both. You are what you do; you WILL be judged by your actions (especially on this forum); no one should get a pass (at least they didn't get one at Nuremburg when they claimed it was "just their job").

If you don't have the gumption to get out of a bad situation, it is your own fault (not yet saying the IPT is a "bad situation", but the possibility is there, and if players are never paid DA will receive a fair share of the fallout - now THAT's guaranteed).

P.S. adding for the 10 character min...LOL

A COO (CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER) has control of the Operations, BUT NOT THE CHECKBOOK, that is a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) that takes direction from the CEO (Chief Executive Officer). No money is distributed without the CFO's approval.

I'm just going by what I heard about him in the past, before the IPT was on the plate. If I'm wrong so be it, just felt that posters here always talked about him in a positive light. I personally have never met the man, and know nothing about him, I'm from the generation before him.

I agree, but since the IPT was never a public company, can't they just make up whatever titles and responsibilities they want?

I am sure Deno had control of a smaller slushy-type fund, but there is no way KT gave Deno access to the real coffers.

I agree completely. My point was and still is utter amazement over the lack of press coverage of this matter. The media SURVIVES on controversy and the more blood and guts it can depict, the better they like it...especially a media that has taken delight in the past over heralding KT's past transgressions.

smashmouth...<<Pool Press is a joke, they'd rather cover WPBA qualifiers and other assorted useless crap>>

What an utterly arrogant, ignorant and sexist statement to make. Shame on you.
