Can a refinish harm the cue?

I'm thinking about getting a cue refinised and I was wondering if the process of removing the original coating would somehow expose the wood too much. Would shallow inlays be distorted? Could you possibly start feeling the points in the forearm especially if you have different woods? My biggest concern would be the shaft as you are taking a small amount of wood off an already skinny peice of wood. I raise this question because I've noticed that many skinnier shafts I've seen have usually been more warped than the fuller shafts. (just observation)

This cue is almost 20 years old, shaft is dirty but ding free and the butt is very dinged up. Entire cue is dead straight with a full 13mm shaft and no longer made. I'd hate to cause any warps especially in the shaft.

Didn't think about that. I was just wonderiing if anyone had any problems in the past from this. Sorry, I'll move it.

If you use a pro, like Proficient or Mike Webb, your cue will come back just like new.

Jer, it was in the Main Section when I answered it, but if it makes you feel better, I'll make a cue.

There is very little chance that refinishing will cause the cue to warp. Next to impossible if the mechanic knows what they are doing. Find someone reputable, and you should have no worries.
The only time a refinish might be unadvisable is if it makes a rare or valuable cue less original.
