Can anyone say ANYTHING Positive about the IPT

well yeah

I'm positive it is better than Ballbreakers, or at least it pays more!

More seriously, I'm positive that good or bad for pool in the long run, it is gonna be a helluva ride for the players involved. I wish them all luck.

Seems like IPT bashing is the order of the day, I hope the IPT is a big success, and KT makes a Boat Load of Money off the IPT. GO GO GO KT....:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I think most of the critisism has been about relatively small things, hoping that the IPT is reading and trying to improve.

I think the IPT is the best thing to happen to pool in a long time and I'm hoping that it is a success. Its success can only create more interest in pool and help all other tournaments.

Let's see...since the IPT came along, pool is showing up in the same time slot on the same channel every week. AZBilliards has dedicated an entire discussion area just about the IPT. Qualifiers are being held all over the world, and the top players are entering them just to try to get into one event. That event is going to pay $2M!!!!! A major contract for broadcasting in Europe has been signed. It looks like players are finally going to be able to make some actual money playing pool.

Yeah, I believe it is a good thing. I think many (not all, but many) of those knocking it are just the type of people who enjoy trashing the efforts of others. I think the large majority are feeling pretty positive about the whole IPT thing. I say "Enjoy what is happening in the pool world right now, and ignore the idiots."

Pool's toughest critics come from within its own culture.

Within pool's culture lies the subculture of pool players, a small minority in the mix.

I have not yet spoken to a pool player, one who is actively and currently competing and desires to further their pool-playing career, who has anything negative to say about the IPT.

On the contrary, these pool players are excited to be given the opportunity to play real pool, with real rules, and for real money.

If the IPT is successful in its mission, the industry members, media, and pool enthusiasts will see the "sport" elevate to a new plateau. I think it has already made strides since the IPT's inception.

It is unfortunate that the toughest critics from within its own culture, naysayers if you will, predict the demise of the IPT tour before it even gets off the ground.

A little factoid one must remember is that the first OFFICIAL tournament, which will occur at the Venetian in Las Vegas on July 22-30, 2006, has not even taken place yet.

Long live the IPT, Kevin Trudeau, and pool players around the world. The best is yet to come. JMHO, FWIW! :p

I M Hoping to see IPT Events on ESPN, or FOX Sports...
You are probably saying this because you don't receive OLN, just as I do not receive Fox Sports.

I hope the IPT never goes to ESPN because, with the WPBA ESPN has a history of using pool as a filler, on all different days and all different times. They also will cancel it at the last minute, if the mood strikes them.
I believe OLN putting pool on TV at the same time and day, each week, is the best thing that has ever happened to pool on TV. They are treating it with respect, like all of the other sports.

Assuming that ESPN would not do all those things, they would be WAY better off on ESPN. OLN is a nothing network, their Stanley Cup coverage was beaten in the same time slot by ladies collage softball game on ESPN 2. I can't imagine how low the ratings must be for the IPT relative to other channels, they must be awful. You want to be on a channel someone watches.

People can't watch pool on ESPN if they don't know when it is on.
People can't watch pool on ESPN if they tune in at the scheduled time and ESPN decides to show something else.

Obviously, OLN has smaller ratings for all of their programing, because they are a much smaller network. However, from what I have read, they are growing and they want to be a contender in the sports broadcasting market. Obviously, it would be great to have pool shown on one of the huge networks, but I think it is equally important to have pool shown on a network that is not going to jerk it around.

I don't think the IPT has unlimited time or money to wait for OLN to become a more main stream channel. Like real estate it is location, location, location you have to be in the right place or you wilt no matter how good your product.

They should have gone with a bigger network right out of the box to kick this thing off. I still don't get the lack of promotion, what about the talk show circuit where are they hiding their players? The whole IPT is still totally invisible.

I don't hate their show as much as the fact it just looks like a weekend sport highlight show, where is the payoff? I thought it would have highlights but would also have one featured match each week. Is this leading up to something or is this all it will be each week?

Yes it was on FOX Sports and Kevin T. Said there ratings went off the charts, and with no advertising it did better than all there shows.
 And Kevin Also Said that all the major sports networks wanted there show!!

:eek: HOW DID THEY END UP ON THE {OLN NETWORK}
This wouldn’t be a bad choice but Kevin compared his show to the world poker tour, & if they were on {OLN} I don’t think they would be such a Hit!!!

Maybe OLN Network does it for Free because the IPT wants to use all the poolrooms for free!

That’s just my opinion.

Stanley Cup? Low ratings on OLN?

Do you realize that the Stanley Cup was telecast on NBC live, during prime time, and nobody watched it. Lowest ratings on record. This according to a couple disk jockeys on the local radio. Eh?

Reruns of the gong show had better ratings.

A bigger network would certainly have been a better choice, if they had that choice. We can't assume that all networks were knocking on KT's door, chasing the rights to show the IPT tournament.

I have a feeling that the major networks didn't really want the IPT, especially in prime time.

From their history, I would doubt that ESPN would have made a commitment to show the IPT every week, at the same time. The programs would have been scattered to a variety of time slots, on different days, and they would have been lost, as are many of the WPBA programs.

So we are back to a network like OLN, which may have been the best choice they had. Obviously, OLN made the necessary commitments.

This happens in all sports. MLB lost a lot after their strike, and even the NFL did after their "substitute season". People who love the game will stick with it. I personally followed the Hurricanes through their entire season, right up to the final game and the winning of the cup. It's much like pool...people get upset and leave the game....but they usually come back. It gets in your blood.

We don't have to assume it. KT told us after the first broadcast of the Sigel-Jones match on Fox Sports' "Best Damn Sports Show Ever", that the ratings were much higher than expected and all the major networks wanted to show the IPT. Of course, it may have been true then and the networks lost interest since it took 6 months to have anything else ready to show (the KOTH tournament). But I have a feeling that KT was just trying to put a positive spin on things and generate some excitement in the billiard community. It's what he does.

I don't mind the IPT being on OLN. It's a channel I can access and it is on a regular day at a regular time, so I don't have to go searching for when pool is on like I do with ESPN. We'll just have to see how this plays out. One thing I wonder about though is with 6 tournaments a year (with many more scheduled next year), how are they going to find time to show all of these? The KOTH is being shown in six weeks and it only had 43 players in it. The other tournaments have 150-200 players. How are they going to pare all that film down to just 6 hours? And with 6 tournaments in 6 months, are we going to be bombarded with tournament after tournament on TV in this "reality show" style? It seems to me that it would begin to become tedious. Would "Survivor" last very long showing 6 seasons a year? These are just some of the questions and concerns I have about this new tour. Only the future will bring the answer.
