Can Irish Linen wrap be dyed ???

My cue has a white linen wrap,
I think it would better solid black"
Can I successfully dye the wrap, AND NOT GET BLACK HANDS :eek:

I'm not sure if you can dye it or not but you can get a rewrap for 50.00 or less.I would be afraid that the die would bleed into the forearm or butt sleeve.

Hi,

It's linen, it will dye just fine. Before you try you need to put the cue in a lathe between centers and sand the linen and then use a detergent on it to make sure all the crap is gone.

Tape up the cue with blue making tape and go for it. After it dries you will need to finish the wrap like any wrap job.

Come to think about it, you make be better off spending the $ 50.00 and get a new wrap put on.

I would advise against dying it on the cue as well.

There are a lot of good wrap guys on here that can do it in black if you want. Perhaps even black leather?

I have seen more than one cue where the dye from the wrap wicked up into the maple prong and these wraps were not re-dyed.

I'm thinking the wrap probably soaked up glue on the back side when installed and wax on the outside when finished therefore making it impossible to ever get the dye to color it evenly (if at all). A fresh new rewrap is your best bet.

There is no way you could dye it and not have some dye wick into surrounding woods. The potential to make a mess and wreck the cue is to high for no reason. Just get it rewrapped.
