this guy i know is out of pool and has a pretty nice old its george case (2 x4) hes looking to let go, only thing is his name is engraved on the very top of the case (plastic head cap). The name isnt in very deep, it almost feels like its laid out on top of the plastic. Can you sand the name off or will it deface it?

You can try some Goo-Gone or better yet, Goof Off. Goof off is the stronger of the two. It will most likely remove the paint used for the name.

Alot of it has to do with the method it is applied. Is it engraved or painted, or a sticker perhaps. If it were me I would do this. I'm sure you can sand it off. BUT. It really depends on what the cap is made of. If it's made of a solid plastic you can just keep sanding with finer and finer paper until you get to 600 or finer, then use polishing compound to make it shiny again. Be careful of the leather. If it isn't homogeneous you may have to repaint it.
If it really bothers you, get rid of it, just use common sense and be careful...work slowly. Like with anything if you doubt your ability to get it how you want it, don't mess with it. Good luck.

I would get a plate with your name or initials on it and glue it over the name on there now. Johnnyt

well i tried the goof off..........it got rid of the paint in the letters, but you can still see the letters when you hold it to the light just right, i guess it was engraved after all..........might have to go the sanding route or the brass plate if i decide to keep it
