Can you taper a 314 shaft?

Can I taper my 314/2 shaft down to 11.75? And what effects would it have if any? It's just to fat.
 
Predator has limits to how much you can change the diameter of their shafts before the warranty is void. You need to read the warranty disclaimer for that shaft.

No. The end of the shaft is hollow. You cannot remove any material from it. The walls will be too thin and probably break. Predator will also void your warranty if you try.

I had this discussion with them a few years back. If you don't like it, sell it and get one in the size you like.

Ah, so they have changed. It has been a few years since I talked to them. Sounds like they are more flexible now days.

This guy is talking about a full millimeter. I don't think he is going to make it without having the shaft walls paper thin by the time he is done.
 
Just to make a point, you're wanting to resize the shaft (reduce it's diameter), not change it's taper. :smile:
 
Buy a Predator Z shaft. They are already at the 11.75mm you desire. You might also find someone on here to trade your 314 even up with a Z.

You can take down a 314 slightly, but the amount you want to take it down is really pushing it.
 
Tapered 314-2

You can take it down to a certain degree, but how far that is, I'm not sure yet.. I took my 314-2 down to about 12.40mm when I first got it for my Samsara about 4 years ago. I also retapered it at the time (lengthened it).....
I just cleaned it up on the lathe the other day and firlgured I'd check the diameter while I was at it. Now, I knew it was getting pretty thin (I play a lot, at least 6 days a week), but I was fairly surprised when it checked in just about 12.10mm... I don't know how much longer I have with it, but with the front 5" being hollow, I can't see it being able to go down much further..

Predators warranty says it is voided for 314-2 under 12.25mm..
