I am just wondering,do you guys think they should make this a little more exciting?maybe add some more event like one pocket or straight pool or maybe 9ball banks? It's very interesting how they are doing it in US and how successful it is.i know it is hard to find sponsors who will add some money for this event but maybe we can start with a small tournament with entry fees and figure the payouts.this doesn't just help the pool room to keep it busy but i think it is also good for our pool industry.

just my 2 cents..

One thing I think would also help turn out of players, make the pro events during the week and the amateur events on the weekends. We all have jobs to go to during the week. Maybe make the finals for the pro events on the weekend.

I guarantee this will increase the size of amateur events and the open events will have the same people as every other year.

Scheduling qualifiers and letting people know about them would also be good. I had heard about them after the fact but just randomly running them whenever doesn't really get the word out.

It's been my experience that if you want to see something like this happen, you really need to grab the bull by the horns and make it happen yourself.

I think given the geography, the CBSA does an alright job at running the nationals. It's hard to get people to travel all the way across the country for an amateur event.

You also have to look at the reason for the National event. This event is run in order to pick players to play in the world championships.

The World Championships do not have straight pool, 1 hole or bank pool events so having these events at the nationals is not really their priority.

If you organize it, they will come. If you don't....... maybe nobody else will.

Yes well said. If you want something doing you have to do it yourself, don't even think about relying on your national association (or even your local association if you live in BC)

Sorry, could not resist the opportunity to slam the CBSA :D

It's a big country and a small organization, I don't know about BC, but in Alberta the only representation from the CBSA that I know of primarily looked after snooker. (as a volunteer from what I understand).

In order to have qualifiers for Alberta a couple of us got together to run a tournament to pick players to send to the national.

The amount of work necessary to run a full event to pick players for each field was too much so we concentrated on 9-ball this year with the intention of running a larger event next year.

This is all volunteer work. Like I said, if you want something done, get off the couch, stop bashing the CBSA because it's not productive and put things in motion.

Instead of slamming them we all need to get together and figure this out, because like it or not they are the governing body...and as someone stated earlier, the only way for our players to get to the World Championships.....Lets start being part of the solution rather than joining those who choose to just complain!

Just throwing it out there. In our province, our president doesn't care about anything that doesn't have 15 red balls and a whole lot of felt.

If someone wants to get in touch with me via PM or email, I would gladly run some qualifier tournaments in my area. It seems that Shooters runs some but they're never advertised.

I see that the CBSA has assigned a representative for most Provinces:

Am I incorrect to assume that these are the people responsible for making it all come together for the Canadian Championships?

How can we get some input/assistance from these people?

These fools have been running (or not ) the BC region for eons, absolutely useless.

I hear ya, just that it's not my forte.
You see as I explained before, by taking over the association these people said they are organizers, leaders and resourceful and would strive to promote the game. Sadly they have done nothing, zero in fact by their incompetence they have gone backwards as most players wont even bother showing up when they do attempt to put something on as it is so poorly done.

Just because I won't organize or get involved doesn't mean I have forfeited the right to speak my mind about the associations, I call a spade a spade.

If you're not willing to be part of the solution, then you're part of the problem, as the saying goes.

You are free to speak your mind all you like, but if you're not doing anything about the situation people are less likely to listen.

I disagree, in most pro sports the players have little to do with administration but they do have input, usually through a players union or association. Then there are some outspoken ones that use the media and promptly get fined lol.
So in the absence of a players union I voiced my ideas and opinions directly to them and they went ahead and did nothing and have been doing nothing ever since

And thus, this is where the less likely to listen part comes in...........

A bull wearing a bra?

........ as useless as tits on a bull?

Very appropriate.

I really wish there were more opportunities for people to participate in the Canadians. I understand the open events have to send players to world championships but for the AM division, its pretty expensive. $175 if I remember correctly, Im not sure what the winner gets cash wise but its nothing like a $175 added money tournament similar to what the Canadian 9 ball tour did or something like Turning Stone where the winner pockets $8k.

Lower the entry fee for the AM, move the pro event to during the week *they dont work anyways, who cares what day it is?!?!* you'll increase the size of the AM event and that money will feed towards the pro event (obviously)

Its not rocket science, there are many ways to improve the CBSA and if the people filling the spots currently cant see any of them, maybe its time to get new people?
