I really like to watch Osullivan when he is playing well. The last time he won the world championship his game was unbelievable, this year looks just as unbelievable.

What's more unbelievable is his attitude. In his victory interview in the 2008 championship he talked about how sad it was that he might walk away from the game. I read an article where he is talking about retiring after this year. What a kill joy this guy is. If being a wealthy superstar loved by millions of people is dull life really is a shit sandwich with two paper thin slices of bread.

marvellous ronnie

I missed the last tournament, as I heard great about ronnie's work, shit!! I missed it, but ronnie's 147 break is unforgetable.

Truly remarkable runout in frame 7. One of the best I've ever seen.

I can't even imagine a modern golfer winning a tourney like the Masters or British Open and then say "I'm taking six months off". Tourney or two, sure, but quit the game? Hell no.

Snooker without Ronnie is in a far worse spot than golf without Tiger.

I like the fact Ronnie credited the psychiatrist as "The only reason i'm playing here", he said in the interview right after he lifted the trophy-I watched every frame live this year of the finals.

I believe if Ronnie was in his current frame of mind the past 15 years he might have won 12 Worlds Championships. Who can beat his current form????; and he is old now too, wow!!! Better late than never, i'm real happy to see him happy and in proper form. I hope it lasts, the Dr he has is amazing, i might go see him, seriously.

Thanx for the video....I missed that one.
I would have layed 100 to one he doesn't get out there.

i think your right, i watched it live and i didnt figure him to get much either, the announcer said 20, which was about right. To find 92 from that spot was amazing, that break will be a top youtube clip for many years to come.

Ronnie is a flawed genius who could easily have won more titles,no sweat but that is why we love him as you never know what Ronnie will turn up,when he can bebothered.,E.T.C;):D:thumbup:

Ronnie can take 3 more World Titles

If Ronnies head is fixed he can do it but does he want it ?
Then there is all the titles he should have won.Thing is there is a lot of young upstarts wanting a piece of the action but have no doubt, he is the best guy who ever picked up a cue in the Snooker World.;):D:thumbup:

I don't agree. Ronnie played well in this one, but he was made to look good by some seriously pedestrian opposition. There have been many recent championships where there were 5/6 players in top form, so the chances of one person dominating for the entire 17 days was slim. Even Hendry at his best wouldn't have won 12 out of 15, and Hendry was an absolute animal.

I'd say Hendry, Higgins, O'Sullivan, Williams and Robertson at their peak were all fairly evenly matched, although Hendry is the greatest competitor there's ever been in any sport, ever - a freak.

Ronnie's a bit of a flat track bully.

Most naturally talented, perhaps, but not the greatest player.

Here is my 2 cents, first off I dont know him, never spoke to him.

My 2 cents is based on me watching many of his interviews and seeing him play many times, good and bad.

I think he likes the "Romantic" thought of nding on top like Sampress did in Tennis which Ronnie refers to often, He loves that idea. And I'd buy it if he was 40 or older.

I watched him live lift the trophy, look at his son, read his lips when he picked Jr up before the trophy(as I recall). Then the interview, he credited Dr Steve Peters as the reason he was there. Just by reading his body language, and answeres to the questions. I think he wants to create some buzz about the "chance" he might not retire and use that to keep people talking, its good marketing. I also think he is thinking how he fits into the China picture. In Summery I dont think he will retire yet, I think he will stay until he is 40 or Sheffield loses the venue for the Championship. Unless he gets millions for playing in China then he will follow the $$$. So no retirement for Ronnie.

On a different note:

Ali Carter in another interview said "Who wants to get up and go to work half way around the world?". I know he has health issues and is a warrior, he seemed more pissed about China than his health.

Hendry retired, I think over the next 3-5 years were going to see lots of 35yr old players pack it in, perhaps a bit early because of China.

Yeah, China presents a dilemma for the players - will they do the right thing and retire, or just follow the money and keep playing? It's sad to see Jimmy White plugging away, year after declining year, but i have little doubt he does it for the love of the game, whereas all the others that are approaching their retirement are doing it for the love of money, I suspect. I seriously doubt if any of the top players play for anything else; and I don't blame them.

I pity you, so cynical all the time. I wonder if you are getting enough vitamin D. The other day, you were on about how O'Sullivan was done in like an old rag and should retire. Now you can't wait for all these other players who are apparently in it only for the money to get out of the way.

Why can't things just take their natural course? Players who want it badly enough will continue to put in the work. I suspect more of the old guard will stick around than you think. I bet there are a lot of younger players who won't like the grind either. Each player has a personal choice to make and I don't think it's as cut and dried as some play for money and some play for the love of the game.

I pity the naive. I was at a testimonial for Phil 'the power' Taylor not so long ago, where he said, and I quote, "I only play darts for the money - no other reason".

It is a rare pro that loves the game like the starry-eyed amateur.

Indeed you are correct!

That World Championship victory in my opinion was by far his best because of his consistent performances (he never had one poor session of play), and that he was also in the right frame of mind throughout the Championship.

You can't help to think that if he had had this playing and mental attitude throughout his career what he could have won... but then again, if he had he wouldn't have been the Ronnie we know today, but some kind of "Hendry+".
