Brother, Josey is next on my list. Revo, lol, I'll give my money to a cue builder, not a carbon fiber molder. I remember the graphite Cuetech, do you? That's what I thought. Oh yeah I remember aluminum Christmas trees too, jk.
Dennis Searing.......not because I believe he makes the best shafts........because I want to see why?
I can't imagine that any single cue-maker stands heads above all the others when it comes to just shafts.
So that's why I'd want a shaft by Searing.......I'm betting it's not any better than Tascarella. JMW, Mobley
or any other great cue-makers. Nonetheless, I recognize I could be mistaken but I really suspect not.
I would like to play with about any good shaft for a month to see if it improved my game. I never will though due to cost and time.
I have a Meucci Black Dot, an OB Classic, and a couple of Pat Diviney Lake Salvage shafts that I use most of the time. Maybe it is between my ears, but I like those Lake Salvage shafts. All the shafts are the same length, diameter and taper.
I really believe almost any decent shooter will adjust to the hit of almost any decent shaft and tip after a couple of weeks or so.
I don't believe magic, voodoo or any piece of equipment is going to change ones game for the better as much as good fundamentals and table time will.
Not necessarily In this order
Ed Young's modified DPK taper
Pete Tascarella's long taper with new shaft treatment
Mike Lambros straight taper standard shaft hits pretty great too
I played with a Gus that had Searing shafts once and it played pretty darn sporty. The match was absolutely perfect (I would not have known they weren't original shafts unless I was told).
I picked up a pro shaft at the expo that fits 10 of my cues from Bob. Don't know if I'll ever shoot with it because I'm happy with the shafts I have from the original cue makers, but I've hit a few with my buddies pro shaft previously and I like it.
On a side note, also getting on the Josh Treadway 2 year wait list tomorrow lol.
I have regard for Shooter08's opinion on pool related matters and after all, he has the shaft made by Dennis.
When Tom writes that he wouldn't part with this new shaft, I believe him and now I'm more curious than before.
Matt B.
p.s. Hey Tom.....I relented and if you visit the Cue Gallery (The Emergence of a Custom Pool Cue),
there are progress photos of my cue underway with Bob.....I am awaiting more pictures from Jerry R.
for my other cue that's also due to be completed next month as well.
