Canuck Pool Players

Joking aside Dave.

Your not trying to say Saskatoon is a better place to play pool than Calgary are you? If you are I think that's rather hilarious. Saskatoon doesn't even have any full time pros, Edwin Montal is a great player but IMO he might not even be our best....Tyler Edey has had a great year finishing high at the US Open beating Strickland and recently beating Jose Parica (badly) at the Reno Open. Go look at the results from the VNEA championships for the last five years, see what I mean?

I'm glad I could provide you with a laugh. And no, the joke had nothing to do with pool, only the way you phrased your post, a play on words so to speak. Counting the pro's (however we define that) is a reasonable way to grade the pool performance of the citizens of a city, IMO. At this point in time there are no players 'on tour' (whatever that is in pool) from Saskatoon, but a fair number who travel to tournaments if they are worthwile. They do OK. My reference to Edwin was just one of convenience, a recent, local win at a tournament where several Saskatoon players participated. If one were to take the top 'n' from Saskatoon and Calgary, I'd bet on Calgary too. Of course as a general strategy, one shouldn't go too far wrong picking the much larger city, which is why I might bet on Vancouver, Toronto, or even Montreal over Calgary in a similar wager ... and New York over any Canadian city.

Regarding VNEA, all I can say is "WOW" ! (OK, I lie, I can say more) Calgary does seem to be the VNEA capitol of Canada, possibly the world. The participation is outstanding, and as you say, they also produce results. I wonder if Southern Music having their head office in Calgary has anything to do with this phenomena ? VNEA in Saskatoon nearly died after Tim got transfered to Red Deer a few years ago :(

Dave, taking consolation knowing the 'Riders went much farther than the 'Stamps this year :)

If you play BAD enough & bet HIGH enough - I'll move there!
TY & GL

There is action to be had here in Calgary, not much of it is easy though. The scene was better before, the problem is there is no tournament scene atm for masters, the one pool hall that had a weekly event (The Great White) closed. Stix is going to start up a master tournament again but that will be it for the whole week. It is kind of lame actually. As far as action though, last night after the Sunday night Stix tounrament there was probably 5 tables of small action $20-$100 sets until close. Players of decent calibre up to masters level. There are players of any calibre you want to play here, and the amount of money you want to bet can be handled more then likely if you want to play the best.

Get here before I leave and I will play ya some cheap sets, maybe a couple races to 9 for $50 just to see how good ya shoot.

Welcome fellow Canuk !

Post #1 from a name I recognize from rsb ... welcome Glenn ! Are you still active on rsb ? I haven't looked at that mess since I publicly quit many months ago, has it tamed down any ?

A Really Nice Canuck!

One of my favorite Canucks is Shawn Miller. He attends every single Glass City Open in Toledo, OH. This year, he was the last one to enter the tournament, thinking he may rather sit back and enjoy the festivities. However, Shawn must be on a roll because he cashed at the GCO.

I just read on AzBilliards Home Page that Shawn cashed in another big one at Paradise Billiards: Canuck Shawn Miller's Recent Big "W"

I especially enjoyed reading this article because the owner of this pool room about a year or so ago was posting on a pool-related website asking for advice on how to get a tournament going in his pool room. Looks like he not only pulled it off, but he's got a cast of great players. It's a win-win for pool in Canuck Land! :p

Shawn Miller depicted below with another colorful Canuck, Joe Lawrence, and a pretty filly! :)

I wasn't around in 2004... I'm from Ottawa. Lots of really good players to kick my butt around this area.
