Rocky and Louie preparing the tables for the Sardo. Actually no pounding like was necessary for the first Sardo.

Rodney Morris practicing on a Diamond Table. Watching him today I wonder how he ever loses a match.

Ready to go

Hello all,
I am ready to run the qualifier at Capones.Been busy today getting everything together and set up for Saturday play to begin. Matches are set and just waiting till 1 pm to start the first match. I want to thank Rocky at Capones for asking me to be the tournament director for this event. Its exciting to be a part of this. Will keep everyone updated as I can depending on what I have going with the event. Check back soon.
Kay

Glad there's no pic of me I was running all over the place and wasn't ready for pics to be taken. :D But don't worry I'll be ready tomorrow.

Capones looks like an awesome pool room. I was wondering why the matches didn't start on Friday like the rest of the qualifiers. They posted up the names on the IPT website, but that was it, no matches.:p

AND I'm glad to see Rodney growing back his beautiful thick hair. He is tough as nails on a field of green, but as gentle as a lamb in person.

Thanks for the pics, Jake. It would be GREAT to see some more as the tournament unfolds!:D

I wonder why the IPT isn't coming back to the Orlando Convention Center for one of their events. That place was COOL!

That place was cool in Orlando. I wish they would come back to Orlando so I could get a chance to see the play. With the tour I don't have much time off. Play didn't start due some conflicts in scheduling and set up. No one's fault just something that happen. We will begin play today at 1 pm. I look to have a good day. Love to watch Rodney. He's on vacation this week so no competitive play for him but he will be at the event off and on watching and helping out if needed.

Good luck, Kay, and may you have a successful tournament! I think it is great that the organizers are utilizing the skills set of existing tournament directors to make sure the qualifiers run smoothly! This is a bonus for the players, IMHO!

BTW, the gentleman in Ohio who is the TD for the IPT qualifiers wanted to begin today's matches at 8:00 a.m. The players didn't like that much and questioned this early match time, stating it was just too doggone early to play competitive pool for such an important qualifier. After the dust settled, the TD gave in and moved the start times up to 10:00 a.m.

You've got a tough field there in Florida. It's hard to pick a favorite. In Ohio, though, we are pulling for RONNIE WISEMAN. He's a regular traveler on the American tournament trail, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving. I truly wish he had been selected for the original IPT membership of 150 players, but he did not submit his application before the due date. So good luck to Ronnie Wiseman and all of the competitors this weekend, and may the best man/woman win! :)

JAM,
I think as the size of the fields continues to grow, they have tried to make sure they have enough time to get the matches in. In a race to 10 in 8-ball, I found each round taking about 2 hours. I put up scheduled start times for each round, so the players would know what time they needed to be there, every 2-1/2 hours. Even with the small field we had the first week in Raleigh, it took almost two full days to get through the field and the challenge matches. Just the challenge matches alone took from noon on Sunday until 9:30PM. These brackets run much slower than your typical 9-ball tournament. Sooner or later, players are going to understand that starting early in the day will be normal. It will be interesting to see what some of the match times are when they get out to Vegas.

A lot of people will be rooting for Robb Saez since he is the pool room pro. At least one of them along with Rodney Morris (the main guy) and Earl Strickland. I see Mike Sigel will be the challenge guy. Too bad they didn't let Rodney or Earl be the challenge guy and let them win some money. I think that would have been a nice way to thank the local room. Especially since there are a lot of out of pocket expenses for the local room to hold a qualifier.

I expect the matches in Vegas to start at 10am at the latest.

I think that is a good thing to have SCHEDULED match times. I have been to some tournaments when the venue site is a little, shall we say, on the shortskies when it comes to available tables. Though it is great to have a huge turnout of players, what happens is the matches can only commence as soon as a table is available, resulting sometimes in 4- and 5-hour wait times. Then you have the turtle shooters who take an excessive amount of time between shots by analyzing the shot, walking around the table, wiping their stick up and down, holding up the tournament as a whole because of their slow play. Wait times can really put a damper on one's drive to keep it going when competing in a tournament. :(

I've only seen one of these qualifiers in person which occurred in Frederick, MD at Champion's several weeks ago.

Two of the four players who got picked to get played by the IPT member wanted to get out of there and high-tail it down to Rockville, MD, as another tournament was going to begin at noon. They were hot to trot. :D

Fortunate for them, the IPT challenge table player was Quick-Draw Keith McCready. The challenge table matches went fast as lightning because of Keith's style of play. Beginning at about 10:30 a.m., the race-to-10 matches concluded by 1:00 p.m. Keith had a good day that day, with winning scores of 10-2, 10-3, 10-3, and 10-1 which helped speed the challenge table matches along. :p

I hope the match times in Vegas will begin no earlier than 10:00 a.m.

I think 8:00 a.m. is a little early. Pool players, no matter what their age, size, or gender, may enjoy catching a quick bite, guzzle down a cup of coffee, and loosen up a bit before jumping in the pit. :D

8:00 a.m. is too early of a start time for a pool tournament, IMHO. :)

I knew Rodney was House Pro, but I did not know 'bout Robb and Earl. Of course, I'm sure the influx of pool players the past several years who have made the Sunshine State their home brings a lot of champions to Capones.

I really liked Orlando, FL and was pleased not to see any flying cockroaches. My childhood memory of Florida of those creatures still makes me cringe. Orlando was beautiful, new and modern, clean, FRIENDLY people from all over the world, and the inhabitants seemed to go out of their way to make tourists, like me, feel welcome. I could get real comfortable in that town, full of shops, restaurants, and all of the amenities of home. :D

I don't know how the selection process went for the challenge table players. Mike Sigel, though, especially in recent times with the IPT in full bloom, is always a welcome sight at any venue he steps foot in. Rodney and Earl should contact the IPT and respectfully request to be included as a challenge table player for the next 25 qualifiers after Vegas. I'm sure they'll get an opportunity the next round. :)

The format and times are listed on the IPT website. 10 am is when the action starts.

To Let everyone know the day went great the IPT site is being updated as we go along. I have had great fun running this event. I really love Rocky's room. I left the event to come to the hotel so that I could get the bracket finished to send to IPT. Its been a good day and I keep plugging along. Matches start at 11 am so and we have three challenge matches left to do. Then I go back to Georgia. Will keep you posted as I can
