I was wondering what you cue builder,s thought about capping millimine lbm or cbm (canibas based millimine) do you think capping give,s it better durabilty and changes the hit are not? I,ve been not capping it and have no problem,s with durabilty and i love the hit . but i thought i would see what everyone has to say about it. please give me your thought,s about this . I have seen a lot of ferrules crack that were made of Melamine and drilled all the way through. I think putting the cap on it is definitely stronger and it does make the hit feel just a little harder. Some Melamine ferrules are less prone to cracking and my guess it that you are using one of the stronger ones since you have had such good luck.

I always use capped melamine ferrules. They are strong, easily machined, glue well and tips glue very easily to them. They are kind of hard and if you use a hard tip (W/B or Sumo or such) the ferrule/tip will probably ping.

LoL, I was wondering that also, but did not want to go there. I was pretty sure the melamine i use is linen or canvas & in fact hempless 
, so must admitt had my curiousity. I was wondering If I was missing something there, especially with all the talk about how well they hit uncapped and all 
did'nt know if it was a mistake, joke, or if there was some material I did not know about there.
The melamine seems tuff enough, but alittle too much of that ping for my taste, espeacially with a thicker cap, but then again I like hard tips, and as mentioned, not a good combo anyway. I have the linen based. Is there a softer feeling type of melamine out there? I'm guesing if there is it's prone to cracking by the sound of It.

No ping at all like ivory and melamine.
It's capped, same thread but already has the allowance for a shoulder at the bottom.

. I love those samples. Sounds like you genuinely believe in them. I will be sure to try them. I have a personal cue almost ready to be finished, and think it's got ones name on it. I like to try everything before offering them to others, so this would be a good chance. Sounds like the best of both worlds. I'm sure they are good if that's all those guys are using. i am definatly on them. I'm curious if possible to get It in rod also? Thanks again

That's how I make the melamine ferrules up, 5/16 thread & capped, because that the was I was told to use that material also. I kind of like the feel of a non-capped, open tenon myself, and don't mind a slip/pressed tenon at all, as long as cracking is not an issue like you mentioned. but I think it's that ping that makes me feel that way, so may not be an issue with these. I'll just order some ferrules and try them.

MY BAD GUY,S i never could spell very well but it might be a good sales pitch some guys might buy a cue with this stuff so they can smoke the ferulle. ha ha! i meant (canva,s based)and again has anyone had any problem,s with not capping them i havent, they do seem to sound off a little but not bad at all !! i have noticed if you drill them fast as not to get them as hot it does not make them as brittle if you drill them slow they get hot and i think it make,s them more likely to crack what do you all think? Dickie, i have been good having a little trouble with the heart but whats new. how are you? GUYS heres a guy that knows the buisness of building cues you all better listen up cause he has been around for a while and knows his stuff. hell he's probably forgot more about building than most people know and thats a fact. you should see the stuff this guy comes up with unbelievable!!! His cnc inlay machine he build his self and its a awesome setup for a self build unit. not butt kissing just letting you all know he's been around for a while and he's a hell of a nice guy if you can keep him from hitting on your old lady.rhncue said:
