carbon fiber and double hits

I am noticing a much higher number of rub type double hits with the carbon fiber shaft. I don't know if the stiffer shaft isn't moving out of the way as well or if the shaft is passing better information to me. I feel rubs that I can't see or hear.

I am using the Cynergy shaft. Anyone notice the same thing with it or other carbon fiber shafts? Which one are you using?

While starting a thread, the Cynergy has a fast taper for five and a half inches from the tip then a rather abrupt transition. An annoyance when that slides through my bridge. Anyone have a 11 to 12mm tip CF shaft without this feature? Other likes or dislikes about the shaft? I need a three-eighth ten thread joint to work with the shaft.

Thanks for any feedback about any of this!

I play with a Mezz Ignite carbon fiber, and I do find I’m double hitting the cue ball more often these days, particularly when the cue ball is close to the cushion. I think I have enough common sense and pool knowledge to know not to blame it on the shaft - it is me and my senior stroke!

When did you buy it?

I got my Cynergy shortly after they were released and Seyberts were able to get a shipment of them, so it is fairly early production, with 12.5 mm ferrule/tip. Going by feel the shaft diameter does not seem to change at all over the first 14" or so and then tapers up to the joint. IIRC, they were calling it a pro taper, but whatever the name, it is the taper I prefer.

I've been using it as my main shaft ever since and have not noticed any sort of double hits on any kind of shot. On what sort of shot are you seeing it?

A long time ago I was playing briefly with a high-squirt shaft and it seemed to be much easier to get out of double hits when using inside english than my standard low-squirt shaft. It would be good (and time consuming) to do a study of the differences.

if you are getting double hits then thats a problem needing fixing. also your opponents will call fouls on you.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "rub type double hit," but it sounds like you are referring to a double hit that occurs when striking close to the miscue limit where the side of the tip, ferrule, or shaft makes secondary contact on the CB after the shaft flexes and and springs back before the CB can clear. This can certainly be more likely with a shaft with greater lateral stiffness like a carbon-fiber shaft. For more info, see the paragraph and associated resources dealing with "lateral shaft stiffness," "carbon-fiber shafts," and "double hits" here:

I have this problem with my Cuetec, but it's an r360 maple shaft. Almost always a shot with the cue ball right to the rail.

What I found was my grip was forward of where it should be.i am pissed at my leave and focussing so much on the shot that I lose focus on the fundamentals.
