I think racing to 7 is efficient for TV broadcasting, but it's kind of unfair play, as the best players may not do well at the beginning.

I've heard people make that arguement before. The fact is if you have two competitors playing the same number of games, sets, or period of time under the same conditions then it's the same for both players. Last time I looked pool was a skills sport not an endurance sport. Maybe in money games a hustler can drag things out long enough to win but for tournaments the number of games shouldn't matter,as long as it's a reasonable number.....everthing is equal for both competitors. A good example would be Jeanette Lee. She is an excellent player but longer matches would work against her because of her back. One of the other players plays with a lot of pain and longer matches would work against her
also. Some players come out shooting good, other players need time to get into their game, so really it has nothing to do with who is best. It has to do with who plays the conditions present at the time and wins. If they played races to three maybe Jeanette would have been dominant the past ten years, or races to 13 and maybe Vivian would have been the dominant player. Great will players win regardless.
