I got 17th. I got 1500 for my efforts. I will do better next time. I really feel good about all the things I developed this time out that I haven't in tournaments past.

Thanks again!

Good for you, Tina!! It's always a great thing to figure out something new or work out a problem!!

Congrats on your finish!

More updates...

I just lost my match to Romana. I played well at the beginning, got that doubtful feeling, and started to shudder. I pulled myself out of that (I talk to myself alot!) and then felt good, but then played too fast. I hit a slightly off angled 7 too straight, and then missed an off angle 8 ball to come down for the 9. I was thinking to myself before I shot the 8 that this is the ball I missed yesterday, and missed it in practice that morning. I was thinking that while I was down on it! Sure enough, I missed it the same way as before. You can bet I will own that shot when I get home. I had the opportunity to get better on that shot before the match, and chose not to. I wont do that again.

When I left, Tiffany and Helena were 5,4. Darlene Stinson and Miyuki were the same. I didnt see Val and her opponent's score. After this round and then next time slot, will determine the final 16. They get then redrawn to the winners side.

I got 17th. I got 1500 for my efforts. I will do better next time. I really feel good about all the things I developed this time out that I haven't in tournaments past.

Well played, Tina. Where are you with regard to the attainment of WPBA touring pro status?

Good tournament Tina. Top 24 in these fields is not too shabby. Get your b--- back to California and hurry up To Reno. You can still make it. Wed. AM is fine if you want to play. $1,000 bonus to top women courtesy of yours truly.

New Prize Money????

Anyone else notice they just posted a new prize money breakdown, just when I was bragging on them. WOW is all I have to say.
VERY, VERY amateurish!
Not to mention dropping the purse about ten grand.
First place had been 16K and second 10K until today. ALL other money positions dropped as well. I would be a little peeved if I played on that tour (or sponsored someone which I no longer do).

Tina,
You did a great job, its an awesome way to start off the year. The last match you had with Romana at the last WPBA event was very close, today was just her day. I hope you had a great time, this is a great venue. If you see Ellen give her a big hug for me.

There's no score, but according to the WPBA website, Val Finnie defeated Julie Melman, advancing to the final 16.

Congratulations Tina on a very strong showing, you took down some well known players on the one loss side. Jennifer Barretta is still alive and fighting for a spot in the last 16, does anyone have any updates on her progress today? The WPBA really needs to do a better job updating their brackets:(

Let's start by saying you can bet your last dollar that the purse was not dropped during the event. There is no precedent for this, and I feel certain this is not the case.

Nonetheless, at very least, the information on WPBA.com was inaccurate, which, once again, underscores inefficiency with respect to reporting on this event.

Think you're right on the money here sjm. Looking at last years payouts it looks like they use two different payout systems. I think when they use this tournament format the winner gets $12,000 and when they use the other format it's $16,000.

So here is how the redraw came down if I can remember them all.

Val Finnie drew Anna Kostanian
Tracie Hines drew Monica Webb
Miyuki Sakai drew Karen Corr
Romana Dokovic drew Jeanette Lee
Julie Kelly drew Kim Shaw
Tiffany Nelson drew Kelly Fisher
Gerda Drew Vivian

The last two matches might be flip flopped. I cant remember if that was it or if Tif drew Viv or Gerda drew Kelly. But the rest is correct.

I did ask about the money when I got less than what I had read on the website. The flow chart she uses online is a double elimination fill in the blank, and I think she had the rest of the info still from the Nationals on it. She said that she would have to change that after I got my check. To their defence this time, they are working on a lot of changes internal to the WPBA at this event. Kelly is very involved in this process and there have been a lot of meetings. There has not been as much time at other events to attend to everything.

Thanks,

Tina

Yeah, it's only been a few months since the Nationals. lol

........wonders if John might be doing his redneck engineering again this evening.......
I would love a chance to see Kelly and Val this evening if at all possible.

Kindest regards,

Lionel

Was Xiaoting beaten by Tracie? Unbelievable! :(

Honestly, 17th in her first event isn't bad for Pan. Tracie is an excellent player, and although Pan outplayed her in that one Ladies Spirit Tour event, this doesn't qualify as a major upset.

Celebrated young stars like Pan Xiaoting, Wendy Jans, Kim Ga Young, Anna Kostanian, and Jasmin Ouschan, all of whom debuted on the WPBA as teenagers, have traditionally come in with solid, but unspectacular play. Only a llittle experience stands between all of them and great success. We shall see whether this is Kostanian's breakout tournament shortly.

So, if you write about Pan's perfromace, make sure you note that even those teenagers arriving with maginificent credentials usually need a little expereince before they succeed in WPBA play. Pan has every right to be satisfied with her effort, which included beating one of the WPBA seeded players in Melissa Herndon.
