Who has experience with carpel tunnel surgery and recovery time in relation to shooting pool? I just had my right hand "fixed," and I do shoot right handed. I think I'll be able to shoot fairly soon, but I may put off breaking for a while.
Any thoughts or experience with this?

I had the Carpal Tunnel Release surgery years ago. Recovery from it was pretty quick. I'd say I was back to normal playing withing a couple of weeks. The hardest part was just getting through the first few physical therapy sessions. I remember I couldn't touch my index fingertip to any other fingertip for about 3 days. If they give you the colored putty's to start strengthening your hand again, use them as much as you can. That (I believe) was the game changer for me.

its not always that simple some people take longer to heal.i had the surgery and i am a journyman plumber and fitter.it took me about a year to regain full strength in my hand.hope it all works out for you,hoss.
 
Best advice i could give is find a Occupational therapist that specializes in hands and preferrably one that is a CHT, certified hand therapist. i've needed the services following 2 surgeries to my dominant hand unfortunatly, but fortunatly im married to an OT that does hands...
 
It is different for everyone

in my case, i was off work for one week with each hand.
With the first hand that i had done, my left & dominent hand, i put siding on my barn.
I was carefull & it did cause some pain, but it needed done.
With the right hand i was off work for a week & i took it easy.
My job involves typing for about half of my 10 hour day.

I'm right handed, and had my left hand done. I started doing everything once the wound healed, about a week. I would say it took a year to be 100%, but after 2 weeks, the only thing I couldn't do is hit my palm against something.

I didn't have a severe syndrome, and I had arthrothropic surgery.

Whoa ... I'm supposed to have that surgery also. A couple of weeks to get back to playing pool, that's all well and good, but ... I don't know if I could go that long without sex. :scratchhead:
 
results so far

I wish I hadn't put this off!
I could feel results almost immediately after the meds wore off. Typing was never all that bad, but a mouse killed me so I resorted to a trackball at work. Using the mouse I have here was fine within a couple days.
My issue was caused by construction work, which I haven't done for years. I've managed it pretty well with acupuncture, but haven't had good access to it over the last 5 years.
I am wearing a Modabber wrist brace primarily to protect my palm. I strongly suggest it for sleeping as well as recovery. I've tried many... they are available online for about $25 each.
The only real issue I have at the moment is wiping my behind. Doing it left handed is far more awkward than I ever imagined! Thankfully I'm determined and persistent.
