Case for longer cue

I was wondering if there is a production case that will fit a 60 inch cue or do I have to have one made? Speaking of that who is the best and who has the best prices not looking to spend a ton of money but at the same time if I am going to have a case made I would like to customize it a little.

I'm kind of not sure what to say because you say production then talk about customizing.


I will say there are plenty of off the shelf cases that will fit a 60 inch. Just look at the length of the case in the catalog. First thing that pops into my mind is a cheap J&J tube case. Don't know the model but there is one sitting next to me with a sixty inch cue in it so I know it fits.
 
Both o my cues are 60 inch.... Instroke cases will hold them with no probs at all. Had a Guiseppe Case that BARELY held it.
 
For 60" cues I prefer It's George cases, but a couple of my old Giuseppe cases are extra long.

Well, orginally back in 1994 I made my first production cases to fit Joss and Schon which is what I had at the time. Those cues are 29" plus about 1" for the joint pin and bumper. Come to find out though that McDermotts with the longer 3/8x10 pin were barely fitting when the cues were stored pin up. We spent a lot of time while on the road modifying our cases to deal with the longer pins.

In 1999 we went to a longer case that holds 31" easily. I sold my stake in Instroke in 2003 and I don't know what they do now.

But when I started up my own case making again in 2007 I decided to make them so that they hold up to 32" but could also accommodate a 29" part easily as well. This is not particularly easy to do and required many revisions.

Basically it means keeping the beginning of the cavities pegged at no more than 28.5" so that the user can get to the parts without having to tip the case and pour the parts out.

Now, for us it's not a big deal to cut the body of the case a bit longer so I don't charge for that if that's all there is to it. We know to reset the balance point of the case for handle placement so that's not a problem.

When the case gets over five inches longer than normal then I charge a little bit for the extra leather and extra sewing. It's not set in stone though and I always lean towards not charging when I can get away with it.

Back in the early 90's that's one of the things that led me to make my own case. I played with a JOSS and broke with a McDermott (still do). That McDermott pin length was giving me issues with some cases.

I would guess that within reasonable limits alterations in case length really just alters the size of your scraps and essentially does not cost more in materials. Passing that on to the customer is a great practice. :thumbup: That's why I pointed it out. Not everybody operates that way.

Yeah, for us it's not a lot more leather because when you are cutting long pieces out of the hide then you pretty much only get so many pieces out of the hide. Cutting them a few inches longer doesn't matter much. Also the way we are set up I can quickly adapt any patterns to make longer pockets as well so we currently offer those in any length at no extra charge.

I told her she deserves a trophy. And I keep telling her to trade me in for a younger, fitter model. She says she likes the always warm pillow as she feeds me another bite of cheesecake.

I sleep from about midnight in China to about 7am. Unless of course there is some argument on AZB that I just HAVE to stay up for. Don't you know that a man can't come to bed because someone is wrong on the internet......

Well, like I tell my med students when they go to Google, 99% of what you find on the internet is wrong.....so I was right, you don't sleep. :wink:
