Case of the Year - 2012

That's some nice looking cases right here. I can't wait to put my upcoming JB case up for the "case of the year" vintage 2013.

Cheers and happy new year to all.

Kenny,

That is one AMAZING case!! But seeing it on that rough wood that the steps are made of makes me cringe. If I were the one putting the case there, it would have taken 30 minutes just to set it down slowly enough to make sure there wasn't anything close to marring of that masterpiece =) If I owned any of the cases shown so far, they would never leave my house! I think they'd just sit and wait for people to come over and drool (at a safe distance, of course) over them =) Again, just a beautiful case!

Ralf's case is good. I don't know if anybody besides me and Big-Tatoo love those orchids, but the carving is the cleanest, the beveling is the smoothest, the shading is the best, the background is most unique, the stitching is the finest, the edges have the nicest finish, it has the cleanest proportions, it is easy to carry, and the padded suede interior babies a fine cue. Trust me on this, I've been doing it since I was 10 years old.

Dear people,

If you have nominated a case please do me the favor and post some pictures for me. I don't want to have to go to a bunch of threads to pick images to use in the poll thread.

Thanks,

John

Will Prouts Sitting Bull

We are submitting this case on behalf of Will Prout as per his request,
This is Will's latest Quiverz addtion to his case collection. A tribute to Sitting Bull, the great Lakota Sioux Chief. As with all Quiverz cases, Phil Eastwood has designed and crafted everything including the artwork, the tooling, lacing the beads, etc. all done solely by his hand.

Tom Watters-Lord of the Rings Case

Thought we'd help out JB by adding at least one pic for Tom Watters' LOTR Case(post#295796), only because we posted the original one in AZ and we're sure Tom would have wanted us too, its such an exquisite case!
The other link is for Will Prouts Hustler case, but since I see its been nominated by 2 different AZer's, neither of them Will-we'll let you all decide it's eligibility.

The Samurai Twin Dragons

Even though this has been the most productive year so far and there have been so many fine cases delivered to satisfied customers, Phil & I both agree that this is the case we would like to submit for 'Quiverz' casemakers entry. Another innovation in casemakers design, this vertically hinged, concave split wing hood design was conceived to completely eliminate contact with cue’s it houses with magnetic snaps and strategically placed push snaps for added security and conformity. The artwork is unique and breathtaking and again completely designed and hand crafted by Phil Eastwood.
Another case in Will Prouts fine case collection.

Since no one nominated a case by Rex I will.

This is a case that he tooled and Jack Justis built.

So it's a Justis/Goulet Goulet/Justis - whatever - it's one of the baddest as cases ever made IMO

I appreciate the work Marc. It will take a while before people here understand the intricacies and levels in tooling and working leather the way that they understand what fine cue making is. You built a truly gorgeous case for Ralf and it shows the amazing depth of thought that all your cases show.

You and Rex are to me the finest artistic toolers in the business right now. Phil is the current king of the theme case lifting cases into the realm of sculpture. Jack is the master of pure lines and elegance, Rusty has Sheridan tooling mastered. Basically everyone has settled into niches that they excel at and over time people will come to appreciate just how good some of this work is. Not just in comparison to each other but in comparison to leather goods in all categories.

Someday people will really appreciate it and then maybe all of us will get paid what we are really worth.

Alright it's the 2cnd here so we will let this run until about midnight West Coast usa time. Marcel, you can submit something!

Poll up tomorrow. I think what I will do is simply group the case brands together to make it easier to see all the nominated cases from that maker.

I will make a post for each maker and the number to vote one next to each case. The poll will be private, your vote is your business :-)

Thanks for playing and good luck to everyone. I personally want to say that I am proud to be a grouped with such an amazing amount of case makers. Most of you don't really realize this but in cue case making you have the widest diversity of styles, models, and choice across all industries. I say this after decades of study. Making a cue case is absolutely one of the highest forms of the leather worker's art. This is one reason why a lot of traditional leather workers don't offer pool cue cases. And it's a reason why often even seasoned leather workers don't get them "right".

So enjoy the fact that in this time you have so many great choices from so many great makers, not just the ones listed here but so many more. This is one of those times where you can say that the best that has ever been made is being made now.

I hope that everyone's 2013 is prosperous and safe and that all of our colleagues continue to make the wonderful creations that they do.

In Awe,

John Barton
