Case Question

So if I understand. STROKE was the original INSTROKE company located in Germany. There was a parting of the ways and STROKE was created.

No, This is incorrect. The Original company was Instroke. They were from Germany. The Original Cases were the Best they made with top Quality Leather and Tubes. When the company split the other products that were made under the new name were poor imitations of the original.

I still have one of the Original Cowboy 3x7 Brown/Black that I use daily.

Thanks................Paul

Actually this is also not entirely correct. I started Instroke. The mass production Instroke cases were never made in Germany. The company was located in Germany as that is where I was living when I started the Instroke company. All of the materials, parts, and construction were sourced and supervised by myself.

When I split with my German partners I sued for infringement of the Instroke name which I owned. In 2002 we came to a settlement that entitled me to sole use of the Instroke name. They then decided to use Stroke Sports which technically violated the agreement. However by that time I was too exhausted to continue to pursue it and allowed them to put "Stroke Sports" or "Stroke" on the cases. What is quite interesting though is that technically I also own the trademark for "Stroke" cases as that is what I used for my first ten or so cases that I ever made, well before there were any partners.

While some folks feel that the cases from Taiwan - which is where official Instroke cases are made are inferior to the "German" (Actually Czech) ones, I can tell you that the Taiwan ones are better built and are the better case. However I will also readily concede that the ones from the Czech Republic often feature nicer leather. Not always, as it depends on the model, but often.

Whether it is a Stroke case or an Instroke case both were designed by me and both are good cases. Just be aware that the support system in the USA is limited when it comes to "Stroke" cases while Instroke has a warranty center to deal with any issues that come up.

John, thanks for clarifying. I knew you could answer the question.

On a side note, have you started building the larger cases yet versus 2x4?

I bought a Instroke from Roy at Indy Cue. I am very happy with it. The material and workmanship is excellent. If this case is the same than it is a steal if you can get if for under $300. But a Instroke is still a Instroke and one if not the best cases made.

I already own an Instroke Buffalo 3x5 case. They are great cases. I was just curious when I saw this case on ebay as I had never heard of STROKE cases.

We can build any case to the size you want. As Hoosier Cues stated we made him a 3x6 to his specifications.

Basically the only reason that you see 2x4s on the site now is that the 2x4 size is most popular and our goal with the "art" cases has been to express themes and to refine the art of tooling on cue cases.

We can take any theme you like and do that on any size case you prefer. We won't do an exact copy but will adapt the theme to fit the size and your color preferences.

However we will be coming out with some 1x2 and 3x6/7 cases as there are some ideas I want to express that fit those sizes.

Just contact me at jb@jbideas.com to discuss it what we can do for you.
