Cases = Tubes or Felt Dividers

It seems people have wide opinions on this. I currently have a case with the felt liners (like a George) and some seem to have the opinion that these cases don't offer the same protection that tubes provide.

Some feelings are that they allow the cues too much room to move around and any part that might stick above the felt will bump into each other.

Any opinions on which you like/use and any feelings on if there is any difference in protection.
 
As long as it holds my cues, I don't care. It's not like I go throwing my case around the room.
 
Over the years, I've used both types and box cases and soft cases. So far I haven't had any cue damage because of an inadequate case though I suppose it's possible. There are so many good ones, pick one your common sense says will do what you expect, take care with it and your cues and you'll be giving yourself the best chance of not having a mishap.

I like Porper hard cases. The only soft cases I use now are ones I have made out of fairly stout leather, they do good too.
 
i opt for the soft 3c-type cases. lined in felt/neoprene with a sturdy leather or canvas outter.

unless you plan to run over the case with a john deere they will be fine. as for support, a soft cushiony support as i described supports the full length of the shafts without squeezing them together like the george-type cases(BAD). the tubes PROTECT the shafts, they don't SUPPORT them, because the shafts just lay there in the hollow.

the porper types are good too because the holes are tapered.
 
Bonus

One thing I discovered about my 2X2 felt lined case is that I can actually fit two butts and three or four shafts by placing a shaft in with the butt. Saved me money because I recently purchased a break/jump that came with two shafts.

Instrokes are tough to beat for shear protection. But I like the divider cases, I currently have a couple of Justis ProLites and love them. Unless something silly happens, like throwning your case under the tire of a rolling car......... they provide plenty of protection. More than most people will ever need.
Then there are people who could tear up a steel ball, so no case is tough enough. :eek:

The only thing I'll add is the last one I bought (all hard) will receive the butts wide part first...so the pins are up for the cues without protecters.

The other way around and gravity will eventually push the pins out the bottom ime.
