Casino pool tale

The DCC made me recall a gambling adventure I had about 15 years ago . The wife and I took a 3 nite trip to Wendover Nevada for a quick getaway.Day 2 found us in the Nugget just looking around My wife found a card game and I saw a sign,,BILLIARD ROOM.
The room was a bar with a well kept Valley 7 footer . There were 4 guys playing 3 ball and I ask if I could buy in ,they were not very good and I thought it may take awhile for someone to win the pot. They made me wait but not too long at least. I won 3 pots for not a bunch, less than $150 . The best player wanted to play some 8 ball for $20 a game. I agreed as long as we play b.i.h. No problem and away we go...I get up $100 or so and he wants a spot, the breaks and b.i.h after the break . My game was easier,he could not run out so mostly he just got his balls out of my way . The shooters buds were side betting and I ended up about a $400 winner.
I am at the bar afterwords and the barman says he will call some body if I want more action, sounds good right. A bit later a young guy struts in with his cue eager to play some 9 ball , We haggle a bit and agree race to 7 for a c note. I was getting a bad vibe so I post my $ and he has that ...I musta left my wallet at home look . We both got kinda loud and the barman calls security and I get tossed . The dumb ass save me the $50 I was going to tip him. That might have been the last time i ever played on a barbox .

Missing some context. Why did you both get loud? You were still up 300 when you realized you got into a bad game?

I did not get in any game with this 9 baller, He was flat broke.....
like the man said You Must Post
I see now. I read it as you lost a hundred in a race to 7 straight up then acted broke instead of figuring out a better game.

He showed up with nothing more than his balls and his word. Maybe he thought the bartender would cover his bet, since he called him over.

so he didnt have any money to post. and you were up in a bar so then wanted to have a confrontation with the guy. for what reason. just walk away. your action is done. unless you wanted to get knifed or maybe shot. lucky for you they just threw you out.

It was a fine story and so 'pool'.

I agree there wasn't any reason to escalate the matter though, he puts up the dough or no go on the game.

Enjoyed the story! I am not going to try to judge as far as getting thrown out. Apparently the bartender and the last guy had some sort of relationship so the deck was stacked against you after they didn't get away with air barreling you. Any way it happened it couldn't have worked out well when the other guy was broke. If his buddy behind the bar would back him I would have made him put it on the light. Most of my experience, the would be backer balks about then.

My backer in bars stories generally go about like this: Once agreements are made I am going to head to the restroom to drain my bladder and wash my hands very thoroughly. I always find the cleaner my hands start off, the longer before I have to clean them again and I try to avoid playing with dirty hands. My opponent finds his way in the bathroom while I am washing my hands. He wants to dump his backer. I have never got involved in such a thing for two reasons. One, it is a damned likely way to get shot. Two, why split anything with the loser that has to have that kind of insurance to play? I would tell them bluntly I was going to take it all, and I have never lost to someone trying to dump their backer.

Bars are different beasts than pool halls and that has to be accepted. I like bar boxes just fine and if they have a mud ball on them, all the better! I like seven foot Diamonds too but distinguish them from bar tables, different animals entirely.

I must have rambled a bit, here is a bit more of the story,
I realized this guy was cashless and the bar man was not going to stake him ,I told him I would give him $100 for his cue so we could play a set . He is crying that his low end Players cue is worth 400 . I tell this nit I will give him $200 ....the cue will be mine and I will play with it . He gets all whiny about having to play with a house cue and how crappy they are . I am thinking I did okay playing with a Walabushka . I tell him I will also shoot with a house cue if he really wants to play .
Things go bad ,he starts yelling that i am scared to play, yada yada yada . I was at the stage in life where I didn't put up with a lot of bs . I said my piece, went to finish my drink and was soon asked to leave .

Now I am just an old weak man with no game ............
