CB weights

Jay,

That's interseting.

I had heard that they were more than just bit lighter.

Maybe it is the material or a coating as Sean suggested.

Thanks,

here's why I said what I said

Jay,

I've made some awesomely 'goofy' shots myself. Sometimes shooting certain shots is almost more important than winning the game.

The room owner is saying that the red cirlce spins more & throws an object ball more.
I feel that it spins more but does not throw an object ball as much as I am used to with other cue balls.
I, like Sean, do not really like it. I guess because I don't need whatever advantage it is supposed to bring to the table. I'd just rather have the cue ball be the same as the object balls. Maybe I'm just stuck on old school.

Best Regrads & Thanks Again,

Rick,

Here is why I felt you were both right, but both wrong. It is not only spin that needs to be taken into account; it is also speed. To use analogy lets look atta tornado.
A slow moving high wind speed tornado is going to inflict more damage than a faster moving one. The last thing someone wants to see inna tornado is a slow moving F4/F/5 (lots of damage)
Correlate to pool : A slow moving shot with a lot of spin is going to produce a lot of throw; moreso than a faster moving shot b/c the faster moving has spent less time against the OB than the slower moving, (same amount of spin).
Think about how these 4 shots affect throw onna OB ............

1- low speed/ slow spin
2- low speed/fast spin
3- high speed/low spin
4- high speed/fast spin

I have on more than 1 occasion had to make a "goofy" shot just to get on the table, or change the momentum of a game !

Rick, it is ALWAYS A PLEASURE to pick brains together w/you !

Thank You

Jay,

Some here at AZB might say that contact time is insignificant.

I totally understand the spin to speed ratio. I use a soft tip & hit the cue ball near the miscue envelope, sometimes with a swiping stroke, when I think it is better to do so.

I love the game & always enjoy discussing parameters & tactics with polite civil people like yourself.

However...well, I guess I'll just play a safety here.

Thank You Much,

Hats off

Agreed, :lmao:

well. we did not go too far off-topic.

P.S. I know the advantages of red ,but will keep it privy.

If ya interested,... PM me.

Best to you !
Jay

Yes!

Thanks 'Pidge' for letting me deter your thread. I did ask. Thanks for obliging. Although I do not think either one of us got a totally conclusive decision.

Thanks Again,

Do you ever believe in gleaning the spirit of the material you read?

LOL. You simply could not make it up.

But then again, it was I who gave you the loophole to jump through -- with the confusion about logo/circle possibly being "an American thing," to give you a charitable bread crumb so you can continue with your digs on Americans.

I won't do that again.

-Sean

Lol. It must be rotten to flail and miss so often, Sean. I'm sure you'll land a punch one day. You do such a good job of knocking yourself out, I barely need raise my fists, let alone bother hitting back.

Ahhh, I see. So, a correction to your dig on Americans reveals your hidden agenda -- you're actually LOOKING for a fight, eh? Business as usual for you here on AZB. You're not going to get one from me, barfly. Go stagger back to your barstool and order another drink.

Lol. I haven't had a drink for 2.5 years.

But again, where did you 'correct' me? It was a 'confirmation' rather than a 'correction', surely?

As ever, your perception of events is slightly skewed.

For weighing the cue balls, what would be an acceptable sample size of each type? At least 5?

This spring loaded cue may work as well, and draw *pun intended* less attention.

I like *all* of these! As for the last one (the draw test), I'm thinking one of these:

http://pneupowercue.com/

...along with a carefully-monitored charge might be as close to an "iron willy" as we can get? Or maybe a simple pendulum-mounted cue (e.g. suspended from ceiling) that is pulled back a very-carefully measured amount, and then let go?

Just some follow-up thoughts.

In any case, a scientific test on cueballs is long overdue.

Use one of your 3 helplines. I'd suggest "phone a friend" or "ask the audience."

-Sean

Alright, as 50:50 is not an option, I'll phone a friend and ask Pidge, the OP.

Pidge: this is Chris Tarrant here on WWTBAM. Sean Fleinen is playing pool with a bit of a headache, and hasn't potted a single ball all match. He's taking out his frustrations on TheThaiger, as usual, and needs your help on a question about cue balls to help him win sixty-four bags of sand. The next voice you hear will be TheThaiger's.

Pidge: this is TheThaiger. In post #21, you'll see I made a light-hearted quip about Americans having no judgment on the subject of cue balls. In post #26, you'll see Sean Fleinen get his knickers in a twist about it, and call me a 'snob' and label me as 'wrong', despite going on to confirm that I was, in fact, correct. The question is, is Sean Fleinen obsessed with TheThaiger? The four options are a) yes, b) yes, of course, c) yes, to an unhealthy degree, and d) yes, he needs medical help (and not just aspirin).

Having fun, Tim? No, I'm not obsessed with you at all -- and that was the first response to any of your posts I made in a very long time (right?). I respond to incorrect information, and yes, you got the identification of the cue balls wrong (which is the nature of the OP's thread). But let's see if we can get this all straightened out:

1. To be sarcastic, I threw you a charitable breadcrumb on your digs on Americans. Rather than be alert and identify this was a sarcastic breadcrumb, you instead took it to mean as if I was actually agreeing with you! <...face palm...>

2. In your obsession with *me* and attempting to use my last name, you might want to try getting the spelling of my last name right. It has no "F" in it.

But sometimes obsession clouds our senses, as you have proven in these two points. I would like nothing better than to be done with you and your obsession with *me*. Case in point of your obsession with me is where you tried to call me out in another thread.

Are we done with this crap? I certainly am. Please don't let obsession continue to cloud your senses. I won't be responding to any more here.
