Cell Phone Etiquette

I don't care what my opponent does while I'm at the table, as long as it doesn't slow the match down. I don't consider it disrespectful because I'm not there to perform for any opponent. They could just as well be carrying on a conversation with someone on the other side of the room for all I care, but when it's their shot they better be there to play.

I watched SVB and Jason Shaw in Vegas a couple of years ago. They did the phone thing too. I thought it was funny. In my mind I pretended they were talking trash to each other through text messages. Every time Shane would leave the table he would sit down and grab his phone, and Jason was doing the same every time he went to his chair. I don't remember seeing any other players doing that.

Our league doesn't allow phones while in game. Usually the players are lenient if it is a one time call. I usually put my phone in my case so i dont eve see it.

I think it depends on the situation. Very casual , for fun games check you phone once in a while, no problem. But if spend every moment on it, and need to be told repeatedly it is your shot, that casual game becomes less fun. I have limited time to get out and play. I want to spend it shooting, not waiting for someone to finish posting what they had for lunch.

I like it when I take my wife out to dinner and we see couples sitting at a table near us and they're not talking to each other. They are both totally engrossed in their cell phones. I've often seen the same thing with two couples sitting together. NO ONE is talking to anyone at the table! Why did they even bother to go out to dinner together? Call me old school, but my cell phone is not an appendage of mine. I never even turn it on when I'm at home, only when I'm going out somewhere and will be gone for awhile or traveling. If someone needs to get ahold of me they can with no problem.

It's sad. But it's habitual. I don't do it. When my phone dings a notification, I don't immediately pick it up like a lab rat on cue. And not picking it up is also a habit, created exactly the same way as those who check their phone every few seconds...it's programmed behavior through repetition.

its a different generation out there so we have to adjust to it.

when i listened to my soni walkman people looked funny at me.

when i went to europe they wouldnt let me in many places unless i had dress shoes on.
