Chalk

Masters

I have been using Master chalk for 25 years, is cheap and works just fine!

I bought a box of Masters chalk(144ct) for $12 from a friend and when I got it home I opened it up to check it out and it was a box of PRE-FLAG :thumbup2:

Masters or Triangle. (only the blue is any good as far as I'm concerned.)

On muggy days the Masters seems to go on a bit funny. The Triangle always seemed a bit grittier to me and I like that. It feels like it gets into the leather a tad better.

I'll post this letter I got back in answer to a question I asked of Master Chalk just in case anyone didn't see it before and they don't feel like searching through more threads. Here it is .... I asked two questions. 1. the difference between flag and pre flag Masters. and 2. the difference between Masters and Triangle.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wish I had a nickel for every time I answered this question. The simple answer is there is NO difference. It's just a label and has nothing what-so-ever to do with the chalk. The reason for the flag is two fold. First, following 9/11 we as an American Company felt it was our way of showing our pride for the United States to place the flag on our chalk which goes all over the world. Second, our chalk is counterfeited quite a bit and in an attempt to stay a step ahead of the counterfeiters we randomly use the flag and non-flag label every day. This means that it is purely chance as to which piece of chalk gets a flag label and which piece gets a non-flag label. Again this is just a label and has nothing at all to do with the composition of the chalk.

To answer your second question, Master chalk was developed for the pool player while Triangle was developed for the billiard/snooker player. Triangle has a harder consistency then Master.

I hope I've answered all your questions. Please feel free to ask me anything else that you desire.

Sincerely,

I am really glad to have read this...thanx very much.
I was vaguely aware of the difference between Master and Triangle.
I used to go to the UK and I switched to Triangle over there...with Master
I was miscuing when whitey was tight to the rail.
Since then, I make sure I have Master AND Triangle available.

pt...Tweeten has me for life

I am glad you have enlightened those people not in the know, I hear this all of the time as well, I hear how much better it is because they (Tweeten) changed the formula ETC of the chalk:eek: which we know is not true. :) I put it in my post about the PR-FLAG because I like it better then the newer chalk. I think that it has aged and just holds on a little better.:D

I was at a tournament on Sunday and overheard a chalk discussion between a couple higher level players.

Both were using Kamui... one used 1.21 and the other had the 0.98. The player that used the 1.21 said that he didn't like the 0.98 because it was too "pasty" for his liking. However, he had heard of a couple people using the 0.98 as a "base layer." They would put the Kamui 0.98 "base layer" on their (freshly cleaned/spun on the carpet) tip at the beginning of each match. Then during the match, they would use the standard Master chalk that was already sitting on the rails of the table. That way, the didn't have to worry about "pasty" chalk mess on their hands, they could chalk in between shots for their pre-shot routine, and the "base layer" of 0.98 would still give them the Kamui performance... plus using it once per match would help it last even longer than it already does.

I thought that was a pretty good idea... just might give it a try.
