Challenge the table

I can't find an old fashioned bar game near me anymore. Growing up in the 80s I could go into a bar, drop .50 on the table and get a good game. Now days I have to drive to a small town to get those type of games. I walk in to a lounge any day of the week.....tables taken either by league nights, or tournaments. If I stick around long enough, a table will open up around 2 hours after getting there. Pool halls near me rent tables by the hour, although one has quarters. The quarter tables are usually stacked full. I play in a city with 123k population. I was just wondering if anyone else misses the old days where people would play strangers any day of the week.
*I can drive back to my home town and hour a way and get a game sometimes.*

Nothing like a good bar challenge table. $1 or a draft per game.

Sadly, you won't find many of those down here...

Not many bar tables in my area if any left, and if there are, they are most likely 6ft English pool tables in bad conditions and aren't in the kind of placed I would go to these days....

Although I prefer to shoot on a decent 9ft table with a solid player and just pay by the hour, the fun bar games were a lot of fun, especially if you're on a winning streak and stay on the table for an hour or two... I miss those night back in the 90s when I lived in NYC. And although I'm not a gambler, I would take a game playing for a drink, I got to drink a lot for free playing pool and darts...

Fifty years ago I knew pretty much every challenge table south or west of Baton Rouge. Didn't want any part of the New Orleans jail, it made a dungeon look like Club Med and you could get lost in there for months, no paperwork! I made a couple of trips but normally Bridge City was my usual stopping point, just outside of New Orleans.

Not knowing exactly where you are at makes it tough but hard to believe Acadiana isn't still full of action. Beautimus girls too if you aren't a married man!

I play in Lafayette most of the time. I'm just a bar player, not a gambler. I could never get into as I never had money.

I used to get off the sled to eat at Mulatte's or Las's and then hit the two lanes. Breaux Bridge south and west was prime territory back then. Dropping below Lafayette was good too. South and maybe fifty miles or so west was all sweet. I didn't go north as much but I would think Opelousas and Ville Platte would still hold a place or two. Last I knew Tee Neg's was still on the bayou but under a more PC name I have long forgotten.

Tee Neg's reminds me. I bet you could drift through all the little towns on the way to Grand Isle and make a killing on a holiday weekend.

Ah well, been too long. Most of my old haunts are gone and I have gotten old! I would like to spend some time in the area just for old times sake but white hair and having to quit drinking beer makes it hard to move. The challenge tables are for entertainment and you need to look like you are mostly in a bar to drink. You know that of course but it negatively impacts me. Even back when I would buy a beer when I came in a place and throw it away largely untouched.
